The former Greenfield all-rounder had his best season for the Red Rose, passing 50 first-class as he played a key role in the club winning the title outright for the first time in 77 years.

The all-rounder will go down in Old Trafford folklore as a member of the Red Rose squad which finally ended the club's 77-year wait for the LV= County Championship.

Lancashire's stunning eight-wicket win over Somerset at Taunton last week clinched the crown ahead of Warwickshire. Hogg, a former Saddleworth High School pupil who played his club cricket at Greenfield, played a key role in Lancashire's victory with a crucial 46 with the bat in the first innings.

The Woodhouses first XI will emulate one of the club’s favourite sons on Sunday as they run out on the hallowed turf of Lord’s.

Mike Atherton started out at Woodhouses before going on to make Lord’s his second home during an England career that spanned 115 Tests.

Saturday's heavy rain caused havoc in the Lake Garage CLL with Oldham the only one of four local teams involved.

In a game reduced to 31 overs due to the weather, Foresters won the toss and decided to bat against Newtonhurst.

Werneth win seals another title for Norden

Norden wrapped up the 2011 Lake Garage CLL title following Sunday’s victory over Werneth. However, they certainly had to work hard to gain the points needed to retain the trophy.

The visitors were bowled out for a modest total of 149, Chris Humphreys the Norden star with 7-26.

Flourishing Foresters are second

Foresters secured the runners-up position in the Ashton and Oldham Alliance with a win at champions Friends.

Foresters batted first and made 173-8, Yates (46) and Wallbank (32) both batting well, with Amin (3-33) and Mohsin (3-50) the main wicket takers.

Although Friends made sure of the top spot in the Ashton and Oldham Alliance in July, results this weekend ensured that the runners up will not be decided until the final matches next weekend with Foresters, Newtonhurst, Europa Exiles and Greengate all in contention.

On Saturday, Europa Exiles had a convincing win over St Mary’s HC who were dismissed for 27, Clinton (3-2) and Lawrence (3-6) doing the damage. In reply Europa were 28-2 and took the six points.

Further final anguish for Royton

Ten was the magic number as Royton lost their Wood Cup final with Middleton on Sunday.

The Moonrakers claimed the cup for the first time in 10 years, while it was Royton’s 10th defeat from as many finals.

Woodhouses are Lord’s-ing it next month

He took 13 wickets in the two matches to surpass the milestone and take his season’s tally to 105 in the process.

Sun shines on Alliance knockout winners

Last Saturday saw the finals day in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance’s Twenty20 and six-a-side competitions.

Unlike in previous years, the sun shone for the teams in action at Gatley with the Charlie Scoltock Twenty20 Plate the first competition to be decided.
