Council cancels Royton Market amid safety concerns over high winds

Royton Market has been called off because of gale force winds. Oldham council has cancelled the weekly market amid health and safety fears.

Royton councillor Steven Bashforth said: "The market manager took the decision early this morning to abandon today's market because of strong winds which make it very difficult to put up the stalls and could have caused problems during the day.

"The winds seem to have died down since then but at the time the stalls had to be put up it was very bad."

Shaw Market is taking place as usual and Royton will be back on next week weather permitting.
