Latics fans queue around Boundary Park in the rain to nab remaining Liverpool v Oldham FA Cup tickets

Queues snaked through Boundary Park as fans braved the bad weather to get their tickets

ThousandsĀ of Oldham fans braved the pouring rain to ensure they got their hands on tickets for Athletic's big day out at Anfield.

The Latics travel to Premier League giants Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup a week on Friday.

Fans queued at Boundary Park from 4am this morning, five hours before the ticket office opened, as the remaining 3,000 tickets of Oldham's 6,136 seat allocation went on general sale.

There was an added surprise for Latics fans as manager Paul Dickov and fitness coach Paul Butler served cups of tea to die-hard supporters.

Callum Ashowrth, 23, of Barsleydale Avenue, Oldham, queued from 8.30am to book his place for what he believes will be his biggest game as a Latics fan.

He said: "I can't think of any bigger, we played Everton in the cup a few years back but this is much bigger than that.

"It could be one of the biggest days in the club's history and there's just no way I wasn't going to be there."

Josh Fowles, 20, of Ogden Street, Oldham, said: "I think we've got every chance of getting a result, they've slipped up a few times at home this season and we'll take a big following and get behind the team.

"Ideally I'd like to get a draw and bring them back to Boundary Park as it could really help the club financially, plus it wouldn't suit them to play here and we could knock them out in front of our home fans."

The Latics booked their place in the third round with a 1-0 win over Southend at Boundary Park on December 13.

Queues snaked more than 200 yards into the Boundary Park stadium and around the pitch. Around 3,000 tickets had already been snapped up by season ticket holders ahead of today's general release date.

Shame most of them can't be bothered turning up at Boundary Park at any time other than for big game tickets.

Typical, reminds me of when they all suddenly appeared wanting to go to Wembley for the FA cup semi final against United all those years ago.....

I agree its a shame some folks dont come to every game however it will be good to have a decent support when we visit Anfield.

I know fans will moan that some people only come to the "big" matches and I agree it would be great if they came week in week out.

However im pleased it seems we will have a alot of fans there to cheer on the mighty Blues at Anfield.
Hopefully it will encourage some of them to come and watch future games.

Come on the blues!!!
