MEET Oldham’s latest answer to those famous WI Calendar Girls.
Scantily clad and clutching only hats and handbags to cover their modesty, a group of 13 bold lasses – including the cover model – have decided to take early bookings for 2010.
The calendar is the idea of Beverley Heap and features cheeky shots of women she knows who are aged from 32 to 76. Beverley and her photographer Gaynor Wilson persuaded them to take part as they are hoping to raise more than £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Beverley chose the charity because, as a holistic therapy worker, it is an illness she comes into regular contact with. And many of those featured in the calendar – who nearly all come from Oldham and Saddleworth – have fought their own battles with the disease.
Beverley says that while all were happy to help a good cause, a cure needed to be found to get the models over any unease at baring all.
"We were all a bit nervous at first but after a glass of wine it was a lot easier," joked the Greenfield woman.
And Beverley even managed to get her 76-years-old mother to take part.
"She looks absolutely fabulous but she’s having a tough time walking through the village – everyone keeps telling her they don’t recognise her with clothes on!"
The calendar takes its theme from Ascot ladies’ day and has been put together with the help of sponsors.
Beverley said: "Gaynor’s taken the pictures for nothing and the Clough Manor Hotel let us do the shoot there for free. A sponsor paid for the calendars to be printed, so pretty much everything we raise can go to the charity."
