Please help find mum who abandoned me as a baby

Adam Morris, who was abandoned in the outside toilet of a house on Milton Street almost 25 years ago

ADVERTISER readers are being asked to help a young man who was abandoned in a Royton toilet as a baby almost 25 years ago to piece together the jigsaw of his life.

Wrapped in a white blanket, one-day-old Adam Morris was left inside a plastic bag in the outside toilet of an empty house.

On November 6, 1984, social services received an anonymous call saying they may find "something of interest" at an address on Milton Street. Police officers discovered a tiny baby, clothed and quite healthy. His mother has never been traced.

Adam was adopted into a loving family, and now feels he is ready to find out what happened to his birth mother and why he was left all alone to fend for himself on that cold winter’s night.

The only information he has is that he was named ‘Michael Roy’ by a social worker after the first doctor, Dr Roy Bruce, who examined him. The policeman dealing with the case was Sgt Dave Wilson and that is where the trail runs cold.

So he decided to contact the Advertiser for help in tracing his biological family.

"I’ve just got millions of questions," he explained.

"I’d really like to know what my parents looked like, who they were, what they did. It’s always played on my mind not having any answers.

"I’ve known I was adopted from a very young age. My parents, Diane and Gary, still have the blanket and they’ve got a few bits of information but nothing that would lead anywhere.

"I’ve thought about visiting Oldham but never known where to go exactly until now. I didn’t know where to start and I’m just happy to know a little bit more.

"I’m hoping to come and visit and have a look and see if there is anything familiar. I’ve always wanted to know exactly where I was found."

And now he is hoping readers will be able to fill in a few more of the gaps to help track down his biological family.

At the start of what is bound to be an emotional journey Adam explained: "I’ve always been different from everyone I’ve met.

"I didn’t really connect with anyone and there’s always been a bit of a mystery about my life. I’m hoping that someone will read this and answer all my questions.

"I want to know whether I have any brothers or sisters or any other family out there, or any health concerns I should be aware of. "

Adam, who now lives in Staffordshire with his fiancee Sarah, has inevitably asked the difficult question of why he was abandoned and is praying he will finally be able to put his mind to rest.

"I can understand how it can happen but find it difficult that nobody has come forward to find me," he said.

"I’ve seen documentaries about other young people and can understand there can be difficult circumstances but without speaking to my biological mum I can never know for certain."

Adam grew up in Tyldesley, and after finishing college went to work in customer services for a games company.

He lived in Ireland for a year before returning to the UK and hopes to start a computer forensics degree at Staffordshire University later this year.

He added: "When I turned 18 my parents asked if I wanted to find out and I told them I didn’t, but I’ve grown up a lot since then. I always thought it would be pretty impossible, cost too much money or be too difficult to get any help with it.

"I don’t want to upset my parents – they have been really supportive, they know they’re my mum and dad and I love them but the search is more about finding answers.

"The night before I was born was bonfire night so someone must remember something. Any information will be a great help."
