A MUM-of-three who was stabbed twice in a bungled carjacking at a local supermarket has spoken to the Advertiser about the terrifying incident.
The 29-year-old victim, who has asked not to be named, says she feared for her life during the attack in Sainsbury’s car park, Union Street, shortly after 8.20pm last Tuesday.
She also says that she has been left too traumatised to leave her own home since getting out of hospital.
The woman was walking to her car – on the far side of the car park near TK Maxx – when a man got out of the passenger seat of a silver Ford Fiesta, registration EZ08 XHK, and demanded she hand over her bag and car keys.
She said: "This car just came speeding towards me. The car park was empty and there were four Asian lads in the car. The passenger jumped out and I started walking off, but he pulled out a knife. He showed me the knife and I thought he was going to kill me – he stabbed me twice in the leg and I ran. He started running after me. I didn’t know where to run or what to do and just panicked. I just couldn’t believe it was happening. I was just trying to get away and he grabbed me. I screamed out and I think that scared him off. He ran back to his car and drove off."
The emergency services were called and the young mum was rushed to hospital with two stab wounds in her upper thigh. Police officers recovered what they believed to have been the offender’s car minutes later in Glodwick.
The victim is now at home and suffering from the psychological effects of the attack.
"I’ve not been out of the house since it happened and I just don’t feel the same," she said. "I’ve not gone back to work and it’s left me petrified to go out. I can’t sleep. I just want to ask ‘why?’ I was minding my own business – a woman on her own. I felt very scared and vulnerable. I’m just thankful it was not anything worse – he could have killed me."
The victim, who is also Asian, has now made a heartfelt plea to the people in the car with her attacker, or anyone in the community with information, to come forward.
DC Rob Kennedy, from Oldham CID said: "This attack was horrific. The victim was attacked so violently and so quickly that we are treating this offender and his cohorts as dangerous men. We have several lines of inquiry to follow and want to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to find these men, but we still need their help. If you know anything about this attack, or know who might have been responsible, please call us and we can deal with you in the strictest of confidence."
The knifeman was Asian, described as tall and wearing a grey hooded top. If you know him call Oldham CID on 0161 856 8951 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
