Oldham Expats - try our map!

ARE you a former resident of Oldham who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about their home town.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

Please note - this information will appear live on the site immediately and is not moderated. If you feel that somebody is abusing this map service, please click here to e-mail the web editor.

NOTE: All entries received so far, which can bee seen by clicking on 'View comments' have been added to the interactive map - from now on we'd like all new entries to be added via this map and not by clicking on 'Submit comments'. Thank you.

As an only child, born 1936, lost touch with relatives.
Grandfather put up Saddleworth (Pots & Pans)War Memorial in 1922 or 23. for firm Whitehead's (stone).
His youngest son, Hugh (my uncle) awarded Military Medal during WW2. My best pal in 40's was Sammy Hilditch, with whom I went fishing at Sammy's Basin. Bardsley.

I left Oldham in 1979, moved to California where I joined the army. Traveled around for 20 years, retired not too long ago, now working as a Network Engineer. I went to Hathershaw until 1976. One of my best mates was Jackie Turner, now Jackie Jowett (well 20 years ago she was). I lived on Harrow Avenue and spent a little too much time in the Children's homes around Oldham. Anyone knowing where I can get hold of Jackie, or anyone in Oldham who wants to drop me a line are more than welcome.

HI I AM TRYING TO LOCATE OR TRACE MY HUSBANDS FATHER. His name is Graeme Ian Whitworth and was born 1948 in Rochdale and we have been told by my husbands mother that he had a brother by the name of Micheal (born 1938 and we think a sister by the name of Christina(born 1943), his brother Micheal we know had twin sons in early sixties possibly called Micheal and David. Graeme Ian Whitworth we understand emigrated to Australia in the 1970s but may be back now He also married a Lynne Charmer in 1967 and split from her before meeting my husbands mother. My husbands name is Justin and my name is Sharon and we have just had twin sons ourselves 12/04/2005 so therefore would like Graham to know he is a Grandfather. Can Anyone Help?

I'm trying to make contact or find the whereabouts of an ex Royal Navy mate of mine, Brian ( Stotty ) Stott.
I last heard from him in 1974.
He lived in Chadderton with his parents, brother and sister in the mid late 60's.
We served on HMS ESKIMO from 1966-68 together.
If you, or anyone can help find the whereabouts of Brian or indeed any of his family, I would be very grateful indeed.
Tel: 01823 661231
Many thanks,
Taff Martin.
