Rebels hold a free for all

FC United are offering North Manchester residents the chance to watch Saturday’s home game with Rushall Olympic free of charge

FC United are offering North Manchester residents free admission for Saturday’s home game with Rushall Olympic.

The Rebels have played their home matches at Bury’s Gigg Lane ground since being formed in 2005.

But the club has recently submitted plans to build a community stadium in Moston and they are keen for local residents to see what following FC is all about.

"The offer is part of the club’s commitment to the area where we hope to build a community football stadium in Moston and where we already carry out our community work," said their general manager Andy Walsh.

"As we await a decision on our planning application for the stadium, we hope people will take the opportunity to come along and sample the FC United experience and see for themselves what the club is all about.

"The atmosphere is very good-natured, many of our supporters work hard as volunteers to get the match on and make it an enjoyable experience, and a lot of families attend, so I’m sure any new visitors will enjoy the day out with us."

Around 5,000 leaflets have been delivered to homes and organisations around Moston in the lead-up to the game, each with four free admission vouchers applicable for both adults and children.

However, if you live in North Manchester and have not received a voucher, please contact FC United’s club office before 5pm Friday on 0161 273 8950.

The Rebels are hopeful of earning promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier this season and will be going for a third straight league win on Saturday.

After winning their first two games, the Rebels lost 2-1 against both Chasetown and Chester FC but got back on track in style last weekend.

Karl Marginson’s men got back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory at Buxton on Saturday before thumping Bradford Park Avenue 5-2 on Monday.

Adam Jones got them on their way at Buxton, claiming a 15th-minute opener, and three goals in the final 25 minutes capped a mouth-watering performance.

Michael Norton headed home in the 67th minute before Danny Grimshaw and fellow substitute Steve Torpey struck in the last three minutes.

Monday’s ‘home’ game was switched to the Tameside Stadium, with Bradford Park Avenue twice equalising after Lee Neville and then Jones put FC in front.

But three goals in the last 11 minutes sealed victory, Torpey converting a penalty before Michael Carr and Matty Wolfenden fired home.
