MANCHESTER Tigers continued their preparation for this summer’s football tournaments by defeating Moston Brook at weekend.
Within 10 minutes the Tigers were 2-0 up courtesy of two almost identical goals by Chinedu Uche.
After Ryan Cooney had dragged the defenders to the left side he played the ball back to Mwiya Malumo who returned an angled pass to Cooney in the box. He drew the keeper to the near post and pulled the ball back for Uche to thunder the ball home for one nil. The second was almost a carbon copy of the first.
Cooney then ran riot and tore into Moston’s defence.
After some heroic defending by Moston, Cooney forced his way through and found himself with only the keeper to beat, a fierce shot was brilliantly saved but the Tigers man seized on the ball to make it 3-0 before the break.
Moston scored in excess of 100 goals last season but Manchester Tigers have a great goalkeeper in the shape of Bradlee Taylor and even with their inspirational centre half Ben Fletcher on holiday, the powerful Mwiya Malumo and the cool headed Lewis McAnaw controlled the back line and ventured forward at every opportunity.
Tigers’ goalkeeper Taylor stormed forward for a corner and Tigers almost got caught as Moston cleared but Bradlee raced back and took control of the ball at the edge of his penalty area and coolly passed the ball out to Lewis McAnaw to build from the back. Joe Martin took possession on the right wing, swept it across to Kwazi Mpofu on the left who found Teddy Osipitan and within it was 4-0.
Moston pulled one back and showed great attitude by refusing to give up – but it was Tigers who had made most of the possession and ran out 8-2 winners.
