Carlos Tevez celebrates his goal

GIVEN: A real calming influence at the back, and pulled off a brilliant injury-time save 7

RICHARDS: Three times came close to an unlikely goal and had no repeat of September's nightmare 7

KOMPANY: Carries an air of confidence and composure when those around him are starting to flap 7

BOYATA: United thought he was a weak link, but the kid just keeps maturing by the minute 7

GARRIDO: Looked nervous all night, and United preyed on that by constantly feeding Nani 6

DE JONG: Battled his heart out, as you would expect, but he played intelligently as well 7

BARRY: Not his best night in a City shirt, but he gritted his teeth for the fightback 6

ZABALETA: Entered into the derby spirit and shored up left-back spot after Garrido's departure 7

WRIGHt-PHILLIPS: United cancelled out his wing-heeled threat by foul means and fair 5

TEVEZ: The Argentine fought his heart out and was often isolated, but snapped up his chance brilliantly 8

BELLAMY: Had the measure of Rafael, and delivered with quality when it was needed 7

I personally thought all the lads played well. Mancini got his tactics right. The only faults I could see were Shaun running out of steam at the 60 min mark again and Steve Ireland got caught out of position twice in the build up to their crucial second goal. I have hope for the future and we must stick by our new Manager who in my opinion gets better with each week. Interesting no Robinho in squad - you dont mess with Roberto unless you work,work,work

SWP only rated a 4 for me. Very poor on the night. Barry a 5, also poor. Kompany a 6, I thought he was erratic. Bellamy and Tevez 9 each, the most motivated players on the team tonight. Petrov should have been on at half-time for SWP.

where were united's kids? fergie has no confidence in them obviously. they are just clinging on and after 20 years of dominance it's no surprise. but anyone watching that tonite knows the days of not taking us seriously are over. there was an element of desperation about utd and ferguson over the last 2 weeks that is great news for blues. rome wasn't built in a day and we've known much worse than this. this has to galvanise league form and lead to a top 4 finish which is more important in the building process. their silly flag is still fluttering but its days are numbered on this showing. Sorry but Ireland did nothing for me when he came on. Garrido is what we always knew he was....Poor! and Zabaleta isnt good enough at this level. Other than that we tried our best but were not good enough!

Who does these ratings? Maybe it would help if you watched the game. Belamy was terrible . MU were just so much better over the two games .

sickening, the lads did brilliant, micah, dedryk, carlos and shay the main men but they all did well. giggs and ferdinand, especially giggs, should have been off for elbowing

Should have had Ireland on from the start. We'll only get stronger and I hope Boyata gets the starting berth from now on. Top young lad.

GIVEN 8 (hell of a game) RICHARDS 8 (didnt put a foot wrong and could have nicked a goal (or 2)) KOMPANY 8(excellent game and again didnt put a foot wrong) BOYATA 8 (what a prospect, played with maturity well beyond his years) GARRIDO 6 (lost in this team and needs replacing) DE jong 8 (at the risk of sounding boring didnt put a foot wrong) barry 7 ( worked well up the left flanks but seemed to be missing a spark)ZAB 8 (wouldnt be without him plays anywhere and gives %100 %100 of the game, any game) SWP 6 (disappointing, but hey sh1t happens occasionally) BELLAMY 8 (caused them all sorts of problems and didnt get his just deserts) TEVEZ 8 (not %100 but gave his all and took a wonderfull goal, would have got MOM if we had nicked it) IRELAND (usefull but not the match winner we expected) ADE (still lost in Africa im afraid) DONT GET MAD GET EVEN..........oh by the way................SMELL THE FEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes he is a good shot stopper, but how many of those shots wouldnt happen in the first place if he actually came out for a cross once in a while.

And as for Wright Phillips, is he a crab?!?!?!? Only ever goes sideways and never forward.

How can you give Barry a 6 - the same as the very poor Garrido? I thought he worked like a trojan throughout and hardly put a foot wrong.

SWP gave up far too easily when he lost possession, possibly he wasn't fully fit.

Ireland 7 ??? Can not get into the games that he appears in and looks far short of last year's form. I thought Barry was utter Chumpionship - what has happened to this guy - he looks a complete liability for the prem.

Given 5 (rooted to his line for their third), Richards 8 (didn't put a foot wrong and so, so close to a goal), Garrido 4 (disappointing - gave Nani far too much space), Kompany 9 (outstanding display. He must partner Toure or Lescott at the back) Boyata 6 (moments of brilliance followed by a complete lack of concentration for Shrek's goal. Will only get better.), SWP 3 (worst City player on the pitch. Is he really fit?), De Jong 7 (typical performance from the hard man), Barry 5 (RM must have a word in Capello's ear to find out how to get the best out of this player), Zabaleta 5 (in midfield) 7 (at left back) When will he learn not to give away stupid free kicks?). Bellamy 6 (injected pace but final ball sadly lacking, even the one for the goal as Carlos had to brilliantly improvise from an average cross), Tevez 8 (battled brilliantly, even though he was very isolated at times), Adebayor 4 (harried but did little else), Ireland 5 (one or two crunching tackles but a mere shadow of the "superman" of last season). Mancini 6 (generally good tactics but why not Ned instead of Dedryck?).

Although we are improving and getting stronger the faults we have had all season are still there and cost us.

Weak full backs not cutting out crosses and still not 'gritty' enough in the centre of defence to clear our lines effectively to see games through until the final whistle.Given is a fantastic shot stopper but we could do with a big powerful keeper to command the area and help out the defence.I mean how tall is Rooney and he scores a free header!

The midfield is still too lightweight with SWP and Barry easily outmuscled.

But we are slowly getting there.United have been there for over twenty years and have the craft and mental strength to handle the pressure and grind such games out.Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are succesful football teams,no matter how much money.

SWP was not with it. We must sign Adam Johnson from 'Boro. Why is it that Given will not come for crosses? He is a great shot stopper, but all our opponents know his weakness on crosses. This was an honourable defeat and there were some dishonourable things happening - Bellamy being felled bu thrown atricles. I just hope that the FA has the guts to do something about it - some hope!. Why not make Stretford play their next home game behind closed doors? Boyata looks a real prospect and, as all City fans know, we need a class left back with speed and toughness. We also need an on the field leader, who will gee the players up in the old Roy Paul fashion. There is still much to play for this season, but we now need to prepare our squad for the 2010-2011 season. Garrido is just not good enough and Sylvinho, good footballer that he is, is too old. Benjani never will cut it and there are further members of our present squad that should go under the spotlight. Kelvin Etuhu, now on loan at Cardiff, is very unlikely to make our team; Valeri Bojinov, on loan in Italy, likewise. It looks as if Robinho is also heading for the door. I would also sell Petrov (I can hear the howls of disagreement already!) because he will be on his way to 32 by next season and he hardly ever turns it on away from home. (I know, he played well against Scunthorpe United.) Shaleum Logan has flattered to deceive, at present on loan at Tranmere Rovers) and should also go. Ryan Mcgivern, on loan at Leicester City is also a future doubt - not to mention Jo, at present at Galatasery, and Caicedo. These players need to make way for better with more potential and also to permit our Academy lads to get more experience.
Just put last night down to a learning experience!

I agree mate, the entire team seemed to lose confidence and shape after that and United capitalised on it.

But I'm willing to bet my house that they will only get a paltry sanction from the FA for the bottle throwing (not just one, but several thrown as reported in most papers today) like a "letter reminding them of their responsibilities" or a £5000 fine.....

Luck plays a big part in any game and United seem to have had for years.
We are getting better.
Lets build on this.
Roberto you need to now fine tune the squad.
Another defender a ball playing, midfielder also keep your eye on Joe Harts performances.
If we don't win anything this season Next season we will.
Keep up the good work lads.
