CHEETHAM Hill were unable to make up any ground on the league leaders over the weekend as no play was possible in the rain away at Thornham CC.

Despite waiting for as long as possible to try to get a reduced overs game in, the umpires finally called the game off at quarter to five.

However, the widespread rain resulted in all the first division games been abandoned and leaving the league table in the same order as when the weekend started.

Hill’s second team did manage to get a game in. In a match reduced to 26 overs per side hill batted first reaching 130-5, thanks to a 70 partnership between Z Ahmed (45) and M Saleem (40). After further rain delays Thornham were set a revised target of 119 from 23 overs. Needing 20 from the last over Hill captain A Rather held his nerve to seal victory for his side leaving Thornham 2nd team on 109-7.
