Speculation has been buzzing around Manchester City fans’ websites this week that the club is planning a new £50m training complex in Sportcity.

A national newspaper has suggested this will form part of the proposed redevelopment of the supercasino site, whereas another publication is suggesting it will be built at the stalled 1,100-home Dreyfus Village development, at the former chemical works off Clayton Lane.

The club itself is remaining tight-lipped on rumours it will leave its Carrington training camp. Manchester City Football Club is heavily linked with the leisure attraction earmarked for the supercasino site but the club, the council and developers, Apollo Resorts and Leisure, have signed a confidential agreement about the plans.

The Advertiser understands that the club will be revealing details of a proposed development this week but this is unlikely to be anything on the scale suggested on the internet, although a future announcement is probable.

The club has, however, submitted a planning application to the council for the creation of a ‘fanzone’ on Joe Mercer Way and the North Plaza.

The ‘City Street’ concept would see the creation of a food, retail and entertainment market which is ‘designed to enhance visitors’ experience to football matches and other events at Sportcity’.

Local residents are being consulted on the development, which will be close to the tennis centre to the north of the stadium.

The application details the use of various stalls and a three meter high wind break in the designs.
