A MOTHER is warning commuters of the perils of pick-pocketers after her son’s disability allowance was stolen from her in broad daylight.
Diane Stott, of Darras Road, Gorton, was standing at a busy bus stop on Stockport Road, Longsight, when a man reached into her bag and took her wallet containing £250 of her son’s money.
Her son, Simon, 22, suffers from autism and the money was going to be put towards taking him away to Wales later this month.
Distressed Diane, 49, said: "I want to warn people to be aware and keep your bag close to you.
"I’ve been left extremely shaken-up by this and I’m constantly looking over my shoulder now when I leave the house."
Diane was intending to put the money into her bank but changed her mind when there was a queue as she needed to get back to attend to Simon at home.
"I was just queuing at the bus stop and there was a huge commotion and I looked at the man right in the face," explained Diane.
"I was unsure what had happened at first but then I looked in my bag and saw that my wallet had been taken.
"I’m more devastated for Simon really. This is his money and now I wont be able to take him away somewhere nice this month."
The incident took place at around 4pm on Tuesday, 9 June, and the offender is described at being in his mid 20s to early 30s, 5ft 6in and he was wearing a black cap, black trousers and waist coat with a white t-shirt.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any further information should contact their local police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
