5 Reasons to Review Contents Insurance

5 Reasons to Review Contents Insurance

There are certain key moments in people’s lives where it makes sense to review their existing contents insurance, to check they are still fully covered and they are receiving good value for their money.

Just Married

After celebrating the beginning of your life together with a fabulous wedding day you will never forget, followed by an even more romantic honeymoon, you will be moving in with each other and combining your belongings.

It is important you review what valuables you own together so you can make the correct calculations when applying for contents insurance.

This is also important if you have received many gifts from your wedding guests, as these can sometimes be very valuable too, and your existing home insurance policy may not cover them.

Received Inheritance

If you are in the unfortunate situation where you have recently lost a loved one, then you may receive inheritance which may come in the form of valuable objects or furniture.

It is advised you get these objects valued professionally to work out how much they are worth so you can accommodate your contents insurance to cover them.

Re-Decorate

Home Insurance quotes can change depending on the type and value of the contents in your home.  If you decide to re-decorate your entire home, or even a room, you may acquire certain objects or valuables which your home insurance policy does not account for, as they were not there when you took it out.

It is therefore very important that you update your home insurance policy when you buy expensive items like televisions and home cinema systems.

Going on Holiday

If you are going on holiday, or are even thinking of taking a break from work for a longer travelling trip, then this is another good time to re-evaluate your home contents insurance.

When you are away you want to make sure your home is protected as it is probably more likely to get broken into than when you are at home.  So before you leave you should check that everything in your home that is of value to you is covered.

If you are looking after an expensive object for a friend then it is unlikely your insurance company will cover that even if it was in your home when it was damaged or stolen, so remember this when you agree to store or look after something for a friend.

Moving House

Another good reason to change or review your existing contents insurance is when you move house.  The actual size of the house you move into could affect your claims and the location where it could be considered either safer or less safe than your previous location could too.
