THE White Hart’s Billy Keenan won the Middleton Men’s Thursday League’s individual title last week after getting the better of Steve Round from champions Oddfellows B in the final, 3-1.

Round took the opening leg in 12 arrows but, despite throwing extremely well in the other three, he found Keenan’s finishing too hot to handle. Indeed, it was in 13, 14 and 16 darts that the champion gained his crown. Keenan’s route to the final came via a bye, victory over paul Russon (Oddfellows B) and, in the semi-finals, over team-mate Dave Lowe. Round made it with victories over Paul Andrew from hosts, Woodside Club, Phil Davey from the Gardeners Arms, Grimshaw Lane, and, by the odd leg in three in the semis against Andy Slattery of the Grove, Blackley.

A great night was had by all at the annual presentation evening of the Middleton Ladies League at the Hebers WMC last Friday. The Woodman picked up the first division championship and KO cups while two of their players were awarded individual prizes. Lynn O’Brien picked up the individual title and Kath Harris the Memoriam Cup. The Carters won the league and cup double in the second division while the individual title went to Brunswick’s Joanne Boardman.

The first division Captain’s Cup was won by Ring o’Bells hotshot Julie Binder. Margaret McManus gained the second division title.

A special award went to Maureen Tinker, the outgoing chairlady.
