Four goals from John Buckley rounded off a classy display for Langley Rangers as they overcame King George FC 6-3 in the Fred Davis Challenge Cup at Broadhurst playing fields.

The hosts took the lead on 10 minutes after Sam Freakes saw his blocked shot fall to Alex Dibley to smash home.

Langley Rangers are continuing on their march in the County Cup after Jack Lyons netted twice in a nailbiting 6-4 encounter against Timperley Big Shorts.

In their first game for eight weeks, Rangers took a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Sam Freakes and John Buckley, before Timperley responded to make it 2-1 at the break.

Alkrington Dynamos returned home with the spoils after a 4-2 win away at Stoconians in the First Division of the Lancashire and Cheshire League.

Dynamos took the game to their Stockport opponents and it wasn’t long before they got on the score sheet with a Ryan Worsley strike.

Rochdale and District Sunday League Premier Division newcomers Middleton Colts look like being the team to beat this season having underlined their title credentials with a 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Littleborough on Sunday.

Second-half goals from Liam Smith and substitute Lee Herbert secured the victory but as always the endeavour, work-rate and attitude of the young Middleton side formed the backbone of their victory.

Dynamos managed to get their game against Newton Heath on at the weekend as a number of fixtures fell foul of the weather – and they made the most of the run out, beating their opponents with consummate ease.

Dynamos’ lowly league position certainly does not reflect their potential and now without any distractions, having been knocked out of the Lancashire Amateur Cup, this match provided the opportunity to get their league campaign back on track.

Newton FC 4 Alkrington Dynamos 1: The Dynamos first team were in action at Newton in the first Division of the Lancashire and Cheshire League on Saturday.

Dynamos’ lowly league position doesn’t quite give an accurate picture of the quality in the side – they recently reached the fifth round of the Lancashire Amateur cup only to lose in a penalty shoot out.
