The old boys of Fothergill and Harvey’s have pipped local rivals Littleborough to the North Manchester second division title in a close-fought season in which both teams were neck and neck down to the last day.

Littleborough’s downfall came at Rock Nook, home of Fothergill’s, where Boro’s abundance of under 18s struggled to bowl on the wet surface, resulting in a delayed start and a 20-overs-a-side thrash, which suited a more experienced Harvey’s side.

Middleton are one win away from clinching second place in the Central Lancashire League after a five-wicket victory over Ashton.

Saturday’s match became a 35-over affair due to rain at Towncroft, and the hosts put Ashton into bat.

Moonrakers crush Heywood to stay in second

Middleton claimed bragging rights over another of their local rivals with a crushing 118-run win over Heywood on Sunday.

The Moonrakers beat Oldham by six wickets the previous weekend and enjoyed more derby delight to remain second in the Central Lancashire League table, narrowly ahead of Littleborough.

Middleton warmed up for their derby clash with Oldham the following day by claiming a four-wicket win at Clifton on Saturday.

The hosts were all out for 182, with Dale Highton claiming a remarkable eight-wicket haul.

Middleton were unable to claim their third honour in a month as they hosted the North West group of the ECB’s national Twenty20 competition.

The Moonrakers were inaugural winners of the Central Lancashire League competition at the end of July to book their place in the North West group.

Middleton remain second in the Central Lancashire Cricket League table after claiming a six-wicket win in Saturday’s derby match against Oldham.

Middleton bowled out their neighbours for 150, with Paul Thompson unbeaten on 57 while Danny Core (5-48) did much of the damage.

Middleton’s four-match winning run came to an end as mid-table Royton claimed a 45-run victory over the Moonrakers.

Royton won the toss and made 178-8 from their 50 overs before bowling second-placed Middleton out for 133.

621 runs but no wins for Blackley

Blackley played twice over the weekend and despite scoring 621 runs over both games, they lost both fixtures.

On Saturday, Blackley travelled to leaders Littleborough in the league and having elected to bat first got off to a dreadful start losing Rutter without scoring in the third over.

Middleton bounce back in style from earlier loss

Middleton bounced back from Saturday’s defeat by Royton to claim a nine-wicket win over Walsden on Sunday.

Mark Buckley claimed figures of 6-55 to help restrict Walsden to 146-9 before Ste Davey’s half-century helped Middleton reach their victory target in just 35.4 overs, for the loss of just one wicket.

Double win seals 20/20 glory for Middleton

Middleton Cricket Club ended a 10-year wait for a trophy at Towncroft at the weekend.

The club were playing host to the first inaugural Central Lancashire League 20/20 competition, and they certainly made home advantage count in a thrilling day of cricket.

The historic event will be a landmark day, not only for the club, but for the Central Lancashire League itself.

First blood to Middleton in Royton ‘series’

Middleton and Royton met at Towncroft in the first of a four-match feast of cricket between the two sides over the coming weeks. In a tight contest, it was Middleton who prevailed.

Visiting captain Alan Durose won the toss and elected to bowl on a damp pitch. Thanks to heavy overnight rain that continued throughout the morning the match was reduced to 35 overs.
