JED Bloor, an A Level student in business studies at Hopwood Hall College, boxed in the senior ABA novice finals in Nottingham last Saturday.

He produced a top performance to take the championship by a score of 12-4.

The classy Hopwood boxer was always in the driving seat, and counter punched opponent James Denvey, of the Canvey Island club, almost at will.

The southern counties champion must at times have thought he was fighting two opponents at once, as the hand speed and reactions of Bloor were so good.

Bloor went into the fourth and final round six points ahead of his now frustrated opponent, but to Denvey’s credit he gave his all in the last round. Bloor increased his lead by moving around the outside of the ring and pinching the odd scoring shot on the move.

At the final bell Denvey realised the decision was going to the Hopwood boxer, and to his credit he was humble in defeat and raised the arm of the champion.

Joshua McLaren, also an A level business studies student, boxed Jack Fletcher of Donnington on a club show held in Donnington last Friday.

The Hopwood Fighter was awarded the contest by a unanimous decision.
