Care home to close

AN old peoples' home will close after plans to cut the number of beds in the borough were backed.

Saxonside Residential Care home is set to be axed with the loss of 16 beds as part of the council's efficency saving programme.

Day care services avaliable at the Windermere Road home will also be transferred elsewhere.

Another care home, Meadow View in Rochdale will also close. Two others, Springhill and Tudor Court, will remain open. All four provide intermediate care which allow older people who have left hospital time to recuperate before returning home.

The move has been made as the council bids to save £100m over the next five years through its efficency programme.

SHAME ON RMBC! it was only a year ago that Leader of Rochdale Council , Alan Taylor ,promised the voters of the town: "Over the next year, we aim to build on these successes and make even more improvements to the services we provide". We are still waiting for ANY ,let alone : "even more" improvements to be made to RMBC's services, see also :

It seems disgraceful then to me that a Liberal Democrat controlled Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council are left dragging lamely behind the rest of the country once again by being totally out of step with this cross party political coalition with their frankly callous & ill conceived proposals to shut the only existing Street Homeless Day Centre in Middleton at Brentwood, Long Street as well which requires a paltry £25,000 whilst paying a £68,000 heating bill on empty Council properties whilst people freeze to death on the streets,alleyways & phoneboxes of Rochdale and old folks homes are shut down by this set of local gangsters
