AN old peoples' home will close after plans to cut the number of beds in the borough were backed.
Saxonside Residential Care home is set to be axed with the loss of 16 beds as part of the council's efficency saving programme.
Day care services avaliable at the Windermere Road home will also be transferred elsewhere.
Another care home, Meadow View in Rochdale will also close. Two others, Springhill and Tudor Court, will remain open. All four provide intermediate care which allow older people who have left hospital time to recuperate before returning home.
The move has been made as the council bids to save £100m over the next five years through its efficency programme.
