TALENTED youngsters took to the stage to put a Christian twist on a Roald Dahl classic.

Members of Kids Praise, a Christian workshop, brought Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life during a performance at Middleton Arena.

The youngsters staged their own all-singing and all-dancing version of the classic novel with the adapted title of Charlie and the Chocolate Kingdom.

Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Keith Swift, who was in the audience, said: "It is super to see so many young people put so much effort into making this show work. We support them all the way, it was a really enjoyable production."

Budding actors included 15-year-old Amy Roberts who played the title role of Charlie. She was joined on stage by Hannah Smith, 15, Liz Keough, 14, Denva Kunyo, nine, James Butterworth, 15, and John Ronan, 15.

Kids Praise director Phil Lee said: "Once again a fantastic performance by all the children, everybody who has performed is amazing in their own way. We have seen a great job done by everybody including those behind the scenes. We would also like to acknowledge and say a huge thank-you to Proscenium, WigWam and William Thomas Express Transport who have generously sponsored Kids Praise over many years and without whom the show could not be the success that it is."
