LANGLEY'S newest attraction has been officially unveiled at an action-packed fun day.

The ribbon to the new £70,000 futuristic children and young person's play area in Truffet Park was cut by Mayor of Rochdale and local ward councillor Robin Parker on Saturday (7 June).

He was just one of hundreds of estate residents who flocked to the Bowness Road Park to soak up the sun and the attractions on offer as part of the Truffet Park gala day.

A whole host of activities were on offer, including rock climbing, penalty shoot outs, cricket taster sessions, face painting, bird box making, arts and crafts and a Mort-On Sports Temple of Doom assault course.

And even local police joined in the fun, taking part in the inter-generational bowling tournament, with PC Mike Stott winning the contest through Jimmy and Chloe Hynes, who took his place.

Gala-goers were also treated to performances throughout the day by Langley Theatre Workshop, Demesne School of Dance and Performing Arts and the McGowanettes Morris Troupe.

Katie Fletcher, a community development worker from Rochdale Council who helped deliver to the new play area said: "Feedback from the event has been extremely positive, with many people keen to see community events like this taking place on a regular basis. It was a real pleasure to see people of all ages using the park together in such a positive way."
