ARE you a former resident of Middleton who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...
In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.
If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.
Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Middleton.
All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).
A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.
Please note - this information will appear live on the site immediately and is not moderated. If you feel that somebody is abusing this map service, please click here to e-mail the web editor.
NOTE: All entries received so far, which can bee seen by clicking on 'View comments' have been added to the interactive map - from now on we'd like all new entries to be added via this map and not by clicking on 'Submit comments'. Thank you.

Moved to Canada with parents and sisters Dec 19th, 1979.
Still carry a childhood fantasy of how it was in Middleton.
I was 13 when we left, a rotton age! Try to visit as often as possible. I'm due again soon.

I remember the farm pastures near by, and catching tadpoles in the fields near the school. I remember at school we were divided up into coulours representing Saxons, Danes, Normans, ... so on.
Our family moved to Canada in 1957.

Wow - congratulations to the paper for continuing for so long in this cut-throat world and 'Thank You' too for starting this Middleton Exiles page.
I left Middleton December 1975 after growing up on Langley Estate and attending Langley Secondary Modern. After working at Middleton Public Library and working on GCE's at night school at Durnford Street I attended Teacher Training College
(Mather College Manchester). I then taught in various places around Lancashire before deciding to try out teaching overseas. Well - I've been overseas ever since!
Last time I had a couple of days in Middleton I was on my way up to visit York about 8 years ago. I had to navigate my way from the airport - I didn't know where I was. The whole of north Manchester seemed to have been demolished Moston, Blackley - then a great big hole for a motorway. I was devastated. The only thing remaining to guide my journey were the classic Accrington brick pubs lining the Oldham Road and Rochdale Road. Thank goodness for my misspent student days!
I'm driving through Middleton on 30th October this year. It will be interesting to spot the changes.
Before I finish - I'd like to say hello to any readers who remember Ingrid and Christa Harrison of Mosedale Road, Langley. It would be great to hear from you via this column.
AND - Hiya! to Mike, Lynn, Carol, Carol, Sandra, Joanne, Abby, Frances, Herta, Herta and Mrs. Parnell. Best wishes from Ingrid

I lived on Mosdale Rd from about 1956 to 1966. We lived at number 49 next to the Spooners at 47. Last night I was having a chat with my Mum who still lives in the UK (Failsworth). She told me that the house we lived in and 51 & 53, had been demolished. That came as a shock! Can anybody tell me why?

Just discovered the Middleton Guardian, I am delighted to read about fellow ex-pats.
I moved here with my husband and children in 1969. I went to Durnford St. school, left in the early 50's.
My sister Sheila and I used to go dancing in Blackley and Harperhey, I remember seeing Johnney Dankworth, Ted Heath and lots of lesser known bands in and arround Manchester about that time. That was a great time to be a teen ager.
Would love to hear from any old school friends / classmates ect.
