TV Picks 2002: The ManchesterOnline verdict

Sarah Hartley, ManchesterOnline content editor:

Faking It - still a great format and the solicitor turned rappa will remain one of my all time tv moments.

Phoenix Nights - no explanation needed.

Newsnight - essential and still in-depth despite occasional dodgy image ideas.

Jamieés Kitchen - this programme caused a turnaround from my previous boycott of Sainsburyés because of the ultra-annoying cockney to almost considering purchasing the book. (I did say almost).

Coronation Street - yes it has its lows but the week wouldnét be the same without it

Lizzie Getthing, ManchesterOnline deputy content editor:

The Office

I'm Alan Partridge

The Bill

Jamie's Kitchen

Phoenix Nights

Matthew Davies, ManchesterOnline senior journalist:

The Queen Mother's Funeral

The Office

The League of Gentlemen

Big Brother 3

World Cup 2002

Jon Barbuti, ManchesterOnline journalist:

Property Ladder - invaluable as someone looking to buy a house)

The Office - as with the two choices below, easily the best comedy on TV, but still disappointing compared to previous series

The League of Gentlemen

I'm Alan Partridge

Journeys from Hell - because the clip of an American trying to drive down a vertical drop was the most unintentionally hilarious bit of TV I've ever seen.

Iain Hepburn, ManchesterOnline journalist:

The Book Group é superb comedy tinged with enough drama and pathos to be completely different to anything else on the screen.

Phoenix Nights é Peter Kay and his ensemble took the show to new heights, and generally towered over The Office.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer é consistently brilliant this year, with musical episode Once More, With Feeling being especially jawdroppingly good.

Iém a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here é disturbingly entertaining television event made more watchable by the inclusion of genuinely dislikable people in the mix.

24 é if you can get past the desperate padding (and Dennis Hopperés acting) it was the stand-out US drama of the year, by a significant margin

And a special mention for the Worst programme of the year...

Dr Terribleés House of Horrible é managed to barely edge out the vastly overrated The Office in the sitcom-from-hell stakes. Coogan seems to be lining himself up for that final shark jump.

Do you agree with our choices? What was your favourite TV show of the year? Have your say.
