While the masses make their way to the nearest cinema to watch the latest release a writer is adapting a best seller, a new director is breathing life into his comic book fantasies and a high-profile cast is lining up for yet another film. But shhh! Don't tell anyone, because it's only in production.

Miss Congeniality herself Sandra Bullock is working on two films at the moment. The first is Louisiana comedy Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - an adaptation of the best selling novel in which she plays a writer alongside Ashley Judd, Academy Award-winner Ellen Burstyn and Dame Maggie Smith. The second is Murder By Numbers, a psychological suspense-thriller in which she plays homicide detective Cassie Mayweather on the trail of two high school students who may have committed the perfect crime.
Comic strip
Speaking of which, should the filming of Scooby Doo have been allowed? Isn't it sacrilege to mess with a cartoon classic? Isn't it doomed to follow the same unworthy path as Teenage Ninja Turtles and Inspector Gadget? Fans will soon have the chance to find out because production started in February 2001 and it will star Will Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini and Rowan Atkinson.
Mr Boombastic rapper Shaggy - who according to his schoolfriends looked like his cartoon namesake - will be involved with the sound track for Scooby as well as having recorded the theme tune to Ali G's new film. The track is titled Me Julie.
Sci-fi
On a more positive note, The Matrix sequels are being nurtured and moulded for your viewing pleasure as we speak by producer Joel Silver and directors Larry and Andy Wachowski.
Meanwhile Eddie Murphy refuses to let the grass grow under his feet. He's currently in production with two movies - Showtime and Plutonash.
Showtime is about a no-nonsense LAPD detective (Robert DeNiro) who's forced to star on a reality-based TV show by a powerhouse producer (Rene Russo) with a frustrated actor-turned-LAPD patrolman (Eddie Murphy). It's directed by Tom Dey and produced by Jorge Saralegui and Jane Rosenthal.
Pluto Nash in contrast is a futuristic action/adventure comedy set on the moon in 2087. Murphy plays an audacious nightclub owner who refuses to sell his club to the local mob and allow the mysterious Rex Crater to take over the moon.
