I'm 49, 50 in November, and I've followed the series since its early years. One of the children married a girl from my class at school -he was the Yorkshire lad who skipped across the Dales to school at seven and moved to America as a scientist with his English wife Jackie. She proved to be a touch tricky, and bowed out of the series at 42Up, refusing to be filmed. I'm not sure if she's going to appear in this next series, but I hope in heaven the lad got a better wife!
It's an extraordinary series for reflection. Being 49, and seeing all those other 49ers and their different lives makes me feel on the one hand sad that we have let so many opportunities go by, and on the other, glad to be alive and healthy, and with a family and friends. Not many people have an opportunity to see such a detailed reflection of their own progress in life as us 49ers in this unique and moving series.
