City Life: Season Review 2004/05 (E)

ALTHOUGH most City fans ended last season covering their eyes, they would do well to take a look back over the Blues' most successful Premiership campaign to date.

The 2004-2005 season served up its usual mix of elation and frustration at Eastlands, and the City Life Review of the Year captures it all.

From Robbie Fowler's hooked volley in the opening game against Fulham, to his saved penalty on the last day against Middlesbrough, the Blues' typically unpredictable season is charted at a lively pace.

Some of the duller draws and defeats are glossed over - which City fan wants to relive a goalless stalemate against Southampton? - but rest assured all the significant events are recorded.

Commentary from the players is weaved in well between the match action, with Richard Dunne, Sylvain Distin, David James and Shaun Wright-Phillips all making appearances.

A broad smile spreads across James' face when he recalls City's two games against Chelsea and who can blame him? Two clean sheets and one of the saves of the season at Stamford Bridge are worthy of recognition.

While Dunne, Distin and James concern themselves with City's defensive achievements, little Wright-Phillips is normally shrugging modestly while describing another of his wonder goals.

Arsenal, Aston Villa and Southampton all got on the wrong end of an SWP thunderbolt, and the strikes are relived from every angle here.

On top of the football there are also some worthwhile extras on the DVD.

In-depth interviews with boss Stuart Pearce and Wright-Phillips are interesting and enlightening, while there is also a feature on the Blues' blossoming Academy. Top stuff.
