Shaun Ryder: Happy Mondays have NOT joined the bill for Stone Roses gigs at Heaton Park

Shaun Ryder has dismissed rumours that the Happy Mondays will join the bill for the Stone Roses reunion gigs at Heaton Park this summer.

Fans have been speculating that the two 'Madchester' supergroups could perform at the same concert after both confirmed comeback tours for later this year.

The Stone Roses announced last year that they will play three concerts at Heaton Park on June 29, June 30 and July 1, and have since confirmed appearances at around a dozen other music festivals around the globe.

And the Happy Mondays last month unveiled a UK tour in May including a huge homecoming show at the Manchester Arena on May 5.

But Ryder said there was no truth in rumours that the Happy Mondays would support the Stone Roses at Heaton Park.

In an interview on Real Radio he said: “I’ll put this straight; there’s no plans, it’s absolutely garbage that we are going to be playing at Heaton Park with Stone Roses, that’s rubbish.”

However, he did say the band 'might' add a couple of festival dates to the planned UK tour.

Ryder also said the band were not looking at returning to the recording studio. "There’s absolutely no plans at the moment for a new album” he added.

You can hear the full interview with Shaun Ryder on Real Radio tonight from 7-10pm.

Does anyone know how much the Council will receive for hosting the Stone Roses gig at Heaton Park? ( and how much went back to the improvements at Heaton Park. ) I only ask because the same team wanting to license events at Wythenshawe Park were unable to provide the information for some reason.

Thank God for that,then.

I'm not sure what's worse...the idea of watching a bunch of craggy-faced late 40's "geezers" in leather jackets creaking their way through an awful nostalgia set in a muddy field...or the concept of it encouraging them to write another set of tuneless, incoherent dirges.

Tough call.

Perhaps they could get Misha B to open for them instead.

Going to see The Happy Mondays in 2012 would be like going to see Elvis Presley in 1985. Except he was dead by then.
