Gary Lineker is to continue presenting Match of the Day when it moves to Salford.
The former England player, 50, will make the weekly 450-mile round trip from his Surrey home to the new studios at MediaCity.
Match of the Day will start broadcasting from Salford on November 5. Lineker – who scored 48 goals for his country – is under contract to present Match of the Day until August 2013.
The corporation reportedly pays Lineker £2m a year to host the show.
His commitment to the BBC's move north contrasts starkly to the reaction of other high-profile figures who have criticised the move.
Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson called MediaCity UK ‘a small suburb with a Starbucks and a canal with ducks,’ adding that he would resign if asked to make the trip north.
And presenters of BBC Breakfast, Chris Hollins and Sian Williams, announced they would quit the morning news show after the Salford move was announced.
The BBC is moving 3,300 staff to MediaCity UK from other locations, including Television Centre in central London.

So much for the BBC's green policies.
Let Mr Lineker appear via a video link.
Or better still, pay him off and cut the chat from MOTD.
No presenters needed. Just show the action.
What terrible sacrifices some people have to make, I would liken it to fighting in the Battle of Stalingrad in winter.
nice to see our licence fees going to use!!! NOT
He could jump a lift with the many top Reds commuting from Surrey.
I wonder how much he is being\ paid to commute unless they send a limousine for him!
Just what makes him worth 2 million eh? He only works for an hour and a half per week and often not at all in summer. I wonder what his hourly rate is?
If the Beeb wants Gary wots is name to do a little presenting, (less than an hour of) why the bloody hell can't he do it via satellite instead of travelling all the way up to Media City? They would save a lot of OUR licence fee money, & could waste it on something even more ridiculous than THIS!
It STINKS! Auntie just loves to waste OUR money.
And it must stop NOW! The word Leeches springs to mind!

Have they gone yet? The sooner the better.
Does this have to do with a certain team nearby?
doesn't Hanson, Lawrensen and Shearer all travel down to london?
This will save the Beeb money!
If its true the Beeb are getting rid of a couple of weather girls, why not give them a go at presenting or summarising?
Can't do a worse job the Mr Hansen et al.
get Pollyanna whatshername from the gadget show to present MoTD.
who'd care if she knows nothing about football?!!!
