Former Corrie stars whose characters came to a grisly end have starring roles in a new play by the writer of blockbuster movie East Is East and sequel West is West.

The Diary got a sneak preview of the exciting new work by Salford-born playwright Ayub Khan-Din.

Like his previous hits, All The Way Home is set in his home city and charts the ups and downs of a large family.

Produced by the Library Theatre Company, it stars Naomi Radcliffe, who played Kevin Webster’s second wife Alison in the Street. Remember Alison? She jumped to her death in front of a lorry after the death of their child.

Fortunately, Naomi’s character in the play has a less fraught existence.

She plays Samantha, a new mum, who tries to keep the peace between her forthright mother and bickering cousins

“It’s a great part to play,” she says. “Ayub’s script is very much about real families, all complicated and messy.”

She jokes: “I have to wear a rather tight pink velour tracksuit with big hoop earrings and tied back hair.

“She’s a bit chavvy and wouldn’t look out of place on the Jeremy Kyle show.”

Judith Barker, another Corrie veteran, whose character, Janet, second wife of Ken Barlow – also committed  suicide – is in the play too.

“It would be great if we can take it on tour round the country as it’s such good writing.”

And Sean Gallagher who played knicker factory boss Paul Connor whose character was killed in a car crash, plays a photographer.

“It’s a great mix of comedy and drama,” he says. “Those issues of family politics are common to many people.”

The play centres around the homecoming of Brian as he and four of his siblings argue and re-bond over the impending death of their brother.

And audiences will recognise other Corrie stars in this cast picture including Kate Anthony, who plays the late Molly Dobbs’ aunt, Pam, who hasn’t come to a grisly end... yet!
