Liam Gallagher band Beady Eye cover Beatles classic to help disaster victims in Japan

Liam Gallagher, whose band Beady Eye is to release the Beatles classic Across the Universe to raise funds for the disaster relief effort in Japan

Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye are to release a cover of Beatles classic Across The Universe to help with disaster relief in Japan.

The group performed the song at a fundraising show in London on Sunday night, a day after recording the track.

The Fab Four's original version of the song was also a charity recording, raising cash for the WWF on the album No One's Gonna Change Our World.

The Beady Eye track - recorded during an eight-hour session - will be available through the band's website with 62p going to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

The band was on the bill for the Japan Disaster Benefit at London's Brixton Academy, alongside Primal Scream, The Coral and Paul Weller.

The show has raised more than £150,000.

After The Beatles' charity version of Across The Universe, written by John Lennon, it was later re-recorded and included on the Let It Be album.

Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye are to release a cover of Beatles classic Across The Universe ............ because they are short of decent material since Noel left.

I was at the gig on Sunday and left after their second song.
Sorry Liam, it's time you moved on from your postering and posing.

Primal Scream, Paul Weller and Richard Ashcroft were far better.

Wow. How sad and pathetic some people on here are.
Good on Liam and the lads.

I can't believe anyone would criticize people trying to raise money for a disaster where people have died or lost everything.
