Gabby Logan quits her BBC radio show ahead of move to Salford

Gabby Logan is the latest BBC big name to reveal she will not be coming to Salford.

The glamorous Radio 5 presenter will step down from the station's lunchtime show next spring ahead of the broadcaster's big move.

Mum-of-two Logan, 37, has cited 'family' and 'other work commitments' as the reasons for her decision to stay in London.

But she is among a host of stars at the corporation who have decided not to join the BBC's move north to Salford amid reports that many staff do not support the relocation.

Chris Hollins, sports presenter on BBC Breakfast, has also spoken out against the move north, saying the decision to switch was for 'political' rather than editorial reasons.

Nobody from the BBC would comment on whether the switch to Salford was a factor in Logan's decision.

She will be replaced by Shelagh Fogarty, 44, who will move from the radio station's breakfast programme in May.

Fogarty, who is from Liverpool, has presented that show alongside co-host Nicky Campbell since 2004.

She said she was 'excited' about her move.

Radio 5 Live Controller, Adrian Van Klaveren, added: “Shelagh's done an outstanding job on breakfast for the last seven years, playing a pivotal role in helping the programme to win many awards including SONY Golds.

“Her on-air relationship with Nicky has been magical and it's not a partnership to be broken up lightly – but from next May she will be able to bring her own individual magic to lunchtimes and create a must-listen programme, presented at first from London but then of course from Salford by the end of next year."

The BBC’s flagship shows including Match Of The Day, Breakfast and Blue Peter, will begin moving to MediaCity next year.

Who Mrs Kenny Logan doesn't want to come here up north. The less of the pretentious wannabe whingers the merrier.

Good.

There are just as many people up North who will be more than happy and will do a better job without demanding huge salaries at BBC licence holders expense!
At least they have a choice.

Well, maybe one person won't have to go down south fruit picking, if they can take her her job up here

Looks like she has got too big for her boots. Stay down south then, we DONT need you.

Disappointed in her: London training and London comforts have dulled her sense of regional values- and her of Welsh stock too!!

Big name?

If Gabby Logan is a 'big name' then I dread to think who is considered a small one.

What a politically motivated and embarrassing farce the BBC Salford move is turning out to be. We'll end up with thousands of BBC admin staff and a few second or third rate presenters in those expensive new buildings at Salford docks. And we'll pay a fortune in commuting costs for a few semi-big names who can be tempted up to Manchester for a day or two from London.

Scrap the licence fee and let the BBC do what it wants where it wants with money it can attract from wiling customers.

good, as for her presenting match of the day on Saturday, utter joke

she has no depth as an interviewer - no doubt will get a good job because of her connections not because of any ability

Let all these snooty so called 'presenters' stay down South where they belong. No loss to us she is rubbish and has the charisma of a gnat.

She talks and talks and talks on the radio; she is called "Gabby", and she is 'glamorous' (shouldn't she be on the box then?). We've got thousands of folk who can do her job; you stay down South and open up a beauty salon love; we won't miss you.

Go Shelagh!!
'Logan's Run' was a rubbish anyway.

Gabby Logan is to broadcasting, what Cyril Smith was to ballet dancing.........

...You stay in London love, and keep practising. One day you might even be competent.

cant say i blame any of them, why would you want to move to manchester from london? not being funny or anything, us mancunians think its great but if we look at the bigger picture its not that great a city in world terms. it seems ludicrous to move everybody up from london when all they are doing is broadcasting from a little studio, it could be anywhere. plus how are they going to interview anyone when everyone they want to interview lives in or visits london. it will be 'joining us now in our london studio - john mccririck to talk about his new range of y fronts, hi john'
absolute farce.

Come come now...realise most of us are a bit sneery at such dears, but let's face it, if you grew up in a dull provincial town/city and have shown brains and pizzazz, you will be impressed by episodes of Eastenders and the fact that you'll be rubbing shoulders with important folk from other parts of the world - and like the Sarah Lancashires of this world (born Oldham) and Gabby Logans (born Leeds)...will gain enough cheek to erase the sharp edges of the north, and act all 'metropolitan' - perhaps even with a sweeter accent gained from Hampstead. I've noticed how many of the people at the BBC who violently says no are the ones who have decided to be the insular ex-northerners who perhaps are giggled at behind their backs by the various foreigners (who are more respected - especially if they hail from America. Naturally) and natural Londoners who they meet.
Bless 'em...

To be honest Ms Logan Isn't really a massive name to miss out on. I went through media city the other day and it looks brilliant. I cant wait for all the London staff who have to move up here to keep their jobs to see how good it is. Great location, great new houses and appartments, great new transport links and a great city that isn't full of wanna be superstars who will do anything to get noticed. Oh and for all you millionaires who dont like living out of London. The richest county in the country is Cheshire, which is about a 20 minute drive away and is far better than any home county anyway near London. If you want to stay there then please do. For those of you who take the plunge, good luck to you and WELCOME to Manchester, I guarantee you will have a great time. It's about time people realised that there is more to life than London. It's not grim up north, we only say that to keep the muppets away. Come and see for yourself and enjoy..............................

Good another deluded presenter who cost us licence payers a fortune for delivering dross.

Excellent news, plenty of good people up here. Just look at the influence Manchester DJ's etc have had on the broadcasting industry going way back to the '70's. Nothing wrong with starting afresh and getting rid of the dead wood. And dead wood she is.

Who?
Is she another one of those spoilt reporters who originally got a job on the back of their daddies name? Anyway, good luck Shelagh and welcome back to the North.

good.. don't need your sort round here

Good, hopefully the position will go to a local professional instead of an ex Leeds / london based bimbo.

Never heard of her. Never listened to her. Never will. Stay down there, you deserve it. I go down there as little as I need. I also don't care where they broadcast from...I ain't listening...I have enough real people to listen to where I am about things relevant to me...I don't want to here the shallow view of ten minute celebrities.
