It's full steam ahead for Frank Gallagher and the Chatsworth Express.
The nation is about to get a lot more Shameless with the return in January of the Manchester drama, expanded from 16 to 22 episodes.
Channel 4 has commissioned a ninth series featuring The Jockey regulars which will begin filming in 2011.
The production’s long term lease on its Wythenshawe site, which includes the main interior and exterior sets, is also being extended.
Producers Company Pictures signed a five year deal worth more than £1.2m in 2007 to lease the base on the Roundthorn industrial estate.
Before moving to its own home, the award-winning series was filmed both on location in West Gorton and inside a Salford studio set. Company Pictures managing director George Faber said the future is bright for the drama, set on the fictional Chatsworth estate: “The audience has grown every single year. The loyal audience has stayed with it and it has found a new audience with each new series.”
Channel 4 is making the return of Shameless a television event, with the first five episodes scheduled over consecutive nights. They will feature the mystery of Frank’s disappearance on his stag night, ahead of his wedding to librarian Libby, played by Pauline McLynn.
Series eight also includes the 100th episode. Hale-based creator Paul Abbott said: “I thought to get away with the first seven episodes would be a major achievement - I think it’s got thousands of episodes left.”

Scattooooor
That'll be another series I won't be watching then.
I get my Shameless experience by visiting Harpurhey shopping precinct every few weeks. It's all there: big fat common girls with porky children in expensive walkers, stuffing a Greggs sausage roll down. They are invariably accompanied by a pale, spotty, criminal-looking, tattooed yobbo with a skinhead and sticky-out ears, and a brassy old bag who is presumably the granny. Awful. Why watch telly to see it, take a trip to Harpurhey.
The reak prblem with programmes lik "Shameless" is monkey see, monkey do.Type your comment here...

Drama? i thought it was a fly on the wall documentry about life in Harpurhey.
This started off great but gets more and more ridiculous every series. It's way past it's sell by date.
Looking at all the crud on TV at the moment, this gives me light humoured entertainment not featured elsewhere. It's realistic, but only enough to realise it's the biggest p155 take of lower society.
I'm waiting for an episode on Kyle!
Just have a walk around Hattersley estate or Wythenshawe for a real life version.
Why does'nt 'Hale based',creator Paul Abbot come and move in to Wythenshawe if he likes it so much?then he'll be able to rent his posh detached Hale house (gauranteed rent paid by the DWP/MCC) to a tribe of chav underclass who'll trash it for him before he can cash his first cheque.Maybe then he would stop writing this vile pile of excrement that only adds fuel to the fire. He's got a lot to answer for...
They dont need a "set", there are plenty of choices to be made for the scenes anywhere around Manchester !!
Can't wait! Funniest thing on TV and always the talk of the office the next day!
I hope they have sharpened up the writing/story lines as the last series was dull. I didnt bother watching most of it.
And we wonder why the South view us the way they do........
incompetent balloonist shameless is good if you dont like it dont watch it then dont come on here slagging harpurhey off i bet you do your shopping there cause theres nowt in moston
who watches this crass slur on manchester's runt estates? channel four are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now with this one, well i suppose it's giving range-less 3rd rate northern "Actors" something to do isn't it?
