Living here in Canada for the last 32 years, I have followed Coronation street. I remember watching every week with my Mum back when in Rochdale. I grew up with Corrie as I was born in 1952. We will not get to enjoy the 50th anniversary like you guys as we are so far behind...currently we're about 10 months behind....so it's hard to read on websites some of the details as I look forward to seeing the show on TV. But I will enjoy it just as much next year as you guys will this year...Keep up the good stories...it's always great to find a Canadian who actually follows the show, even though they have no British connection. I have a workmate like that. We have great discussions on Mondays, after watching for 2 1/2 hours on the Sunday. Can't wait to see what drama will unfold with these special episodes, and will keep watching forever...
Love everyone connected with this show, in or behind the scenes...love to all of you for the many years of enjoyment. God bless to all of you...
Frannie.....

My favourite bit is the cat that has legs and a head when the music is on.

Percy Sugden, Blanche, the wonderful Roy Cropper. over the top Rosie, Eddie Yeats, Sonny Jim, Minnie Caldwell, Mrs Annie Walker, Jack and Vera, Terry Duckworth, Steve McDonald mad as a hatter Graham and lots of other great character actors have made me laugh for years. Such consistent writing and great comedy timing. Never miss an episode if I can help it.

Love Corrie, have watched it from day 1, 9th Dec 1960! In 1961 mum took us to a hospital garden fate where we met the then cast. Missed a few when we went to Australia in the mid 60's, but got back on track when we came back to Manchester, now as Frances pointed out we are indeed 9months behind here in Canada, but I avidly watch it every Sunday. Some times it's like watching paint dry, and other times I'm glued! All in all I love Corrie, keep up the good work xxx

The programme's biggest achievement was forcing the BBC to dive downmarket with its dreadful Eastenders.

50 years of TV trash is nothing to celebrate.

I grew up in England watching corrie too, I still watch it here in the USA, I get my program out of Canada (CBC) and like them we are nine months behind, I missed a lot of Episodes though so I don’t know what happened to a lot of the residents like Ena, Minnie, and Elsie. Would love to be able to get all the episodes from the beginning to the present.
Hope Corrie goes on for another 50 years.

The episode where the tram collides with a chinese lantern and crashes off the viaduct into the Kabin is by far the best.

There is an error in the list of "firsts" on this web site. The first words spoken on the show were actually recited, or more accurately, sung by two young girls outside the corner shop during the opening shot. They were singing a nursery rhyme while bouncing balls on the pavement in front of the shop.

It would be interesting to know who they were, as they were the first people to ever appear on the show. Check them out on YouTube - Coronation Street first episode. Anyone know?

Bad acting, bad stories. Let it die

The show has perpetuated a negative image of Manchester and the North for 50 years, it has done the business community and Northerners working around the UK a dis-service...

Red Dwarf should be regulars in the Rovers!!

I have watched corrie from the start , as much as possible, As i grew up in salford I Always related to it , when I hear snobs saying they never watch soaps it makes me laugh , what good Actors , what good writers , look what they are missing out on, the only thing missing in all of the soaps is reference to things that are happening in the real world,

Some of the storylines over the year's have been very enjoyable and yes i admit i have watched the show for a large number of years, but it is time now for me to call it a day. It is just so ridiculous at the moment. ie gut falls off a building and then vanishes! a charity worker steals cash and blames young girls!waster holds party in plush hotel room and is thrown out! family move into the local pub ! taking refuge from eastenders! I would like to thank the script writers for helping me to make my decision to switch off when coronation street is on, because honestly it is fast going down the pan.
