NME Awards drought for Oasis

Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher

Oasis failed to pick up a single gong despite three nominations in the Shockwaves NME Awards.

Riding high after their Brits success last week, Kasabian scooped best album and best album artwork. Muse also picked up two awards, best British band and best website.

Arctic Monkeys were named best live band following their sell-out tour last year.

Despite Oasis imploding when Noel Gallagher walked out last summer, the Manchester band were in the running for three awards but missed out.

Frontman Liam Gallagher made a surly appearance when picking up an award for the best Brits album of the past 30 years last week.

I'm not surprised, they are not writing new and fresh music anymore, delivered poor quality gigs last year on the back of a very substandard recent album.

We are tired of the same old swagger, Beatles cover.,

Music moves on- we want orignal quality bands- Muse and Kasbian deliver on more than one front.

Bye bye Oasis - one quality album does not make a career.

Not long now and you'll be able to dig 'Dig Out Your Soul' out of the £1.99 basket at Morrisons - that well known purveyor of music from a bygone era. They'll be competing with Bobby Darren and The Bachelors.

When I first heard Processed Beats by Kasabian back in 2004 I thought Ian Brown had put something together, it was just like the Roses it was unbeleivable. I got the album on the back of that track and it is such a quality album - top ten of all time for me!
These lads get theitr inspiration and attitude from the Manc scene, I remember reading one NME review/interview and the writer of the piece even said that "they laughed and joke like the cheeky Mancs they're NOT" (or words to that effect)

Anyway, the point is you can still make quality cutting edge music, have a laff, be a bit rum etc and still be decent likeable lads - sadly for the gallagher plebs, they have nver had that....tara then!

Hands of Stone - absolutely spot on! Kasabian really reminded me of a Doors/Stone Roses/ Charlatans hybrid. I remember buying their first CD and getting up early the next day to listen to it again. On a weekend! I then saw them at the Apollo and they absolutely blew me away. In fact, the only band who are better than them are Muse, so last night was a good night all round as far as I'm concerned.

As for Oasis - wasn't it Robbie Williams who said they've been doing a lap of honour for the past 15 years? Not a Robbie fan at all plus I know there's a bit of history there, but I think he has a point. I've seen Oasis a few times now and they've never been much cop - in fact, last time I went to see them (at Heaton Park) I only went to see Twisted Wheel and Kasabian.

Oasis are one of the great rock n roll stories of the city, like the stone roses, joy division, the smiths, the mondays... the list goes on. Since Noel has quit the band and they haven't release any pioneering material for a fair while I'm not surprised they didn't win an NME award, but it's a shame that some people want to come on here and denounce an important part of the city's music culture so begrudgingly.

The Smiths,Stone Roses,Joy Division/New Order were originals and loved by true music lovers..Oasis have been about hype and plagiarism!
James,The Monday's,Inspiral Carpets were far better bands than our now southern Burnage boys!
Even at £1-99 at Morrison's I would'nt be tempted!

Best thing liam could do would be to reform the original line up and revert back to the original name The Rain and perhaps see if manny would like to hop on as he would usually attend the openeing of the park gates, but he will bring enthusiasm and publicity.

Failing that, he could walk through Burnage telling everyone how hard he is and see what kind of reception he gets when he's not offering out old middle class men in waitrose in primrose hill.
