THEY divided the nation with their dodgy hairstyles and dodgy tuning. But for those of us who like to be entertained the departure of John and Edward from the X Factor is a huge loss.
So their singing wasn’t the best, so their timing was a bit erratic, they were superbly watchable and I for one won’t be looking forward to Saturday nights with such anticipation any more.
X Factor judge Cheryl Cole described them as a guilty pleasure, and at the start it was rather embarrassing as an adult to admit that you liked the 17-year-old twins from Dublin.
Especially given that when they first appeared during the audition stage they displayed a Machiavellian streak and were apparently happy to shove any hopeful out of the way so they could hog the limelight. But that all disappeared as soon as the live finals began and their enthusiasm resilience and tenacity – in the face of constant booing from the audience began to win us over.
They’d already won over an army of young girls – the pre-adolescents who were a sucker for their blond quiffs and their blarney even Simon Cowell their greatest detractor the judge who hated them with a passion at the beginning warmed to them at the end as millions of others did too.
Now they’ve gone it will be a somewhat tedious race to the finish. In the finals it will probably be Danyl, Stacey and Joe or perhaps Olly or perhaps Lloyd but to be honest I don’t really care any more I’d much rather see the Grimes brothers doing their version of Ghostbusters again.

These two were the most obnoxious over rated devoid of any talent and big headed little ***** that have ever been presented on Television, they will be missed like a migrane.
Ah but selfexiled. I will bet they will be more famous than the eventual winner- who wil be consigned to the bin come next August.
Gutted! How am I going to miss winding up all the X factor junkies on a monday morning by telling them the twins were the best.
they'll be back. we havent seen the last of them.
if i was dermot o'leary i'd be worried about my job. i'll put money on them presenting this next year.
only place for them is -top of the pops - for 12 year olds and under
mirt b
And can anyone tell me what Mariah was singing? She sounded like a whale in distress!
I think she sang every note bar the one she was supposed to! And what was with the screaming of the high notes near the end?! My fillings are lose now- im sendingher the bill!
Who cares.
With the acts being asked to perform two songs each from next week, John and Edward have left the X Factor at just the right time as I think the twins would really have struggled with that. They have been thoroughly entertaining during the series and I will miss their chaotic routines on a Saturday night.
One final thought now that John and Edward have gone. I wonder who their detractors will aim their venom at when the next act gets booted out.
Cheryl was told to say that they were good as were all the panel, cowell needs a new chico for some novelty songs, that's why they were kept in so long.
And why are people pronouncing Cheryl as Sheryl these days? Never happened in the 70s or the early 80s come to that.
tiggerluc, somewhere in shaw- Another classic she has stolen and butchered. Maria Carey the most successful female singer for doing cover versions an injustice.

You know how to cheer a bloke up don't you mate? :o(
Can't wait not to miss them on a program I never watch.
Sadly the loss was not one of electricity...Saturday Night TV would be a lot better if power was lost.
As entertaining as they were, i think it was time for the twins to go. Lloyd should go next week and hopefully Danyl the week after, but who knows.
Does anyone else think Mariah Carey was miming all the way through that Foreigner song that she murdered!!
Yes I wwas thinking the same about the miming. Does make you think that she has barley ever toured.
people need to get a life if a cheap talent contest if what rules life, itv need to make quality programs not cheap stuff that people are daft enough to waist money voting for.
I watched Mariah Carey and thought it was dreadful. It was an insult to Foreigner. She did mime that but she also butchered a classic like she does with all the other songs she tries to sing. Get a life Mariah do something your good at instead of screeching. As for the twins i hated them they were never going to win. I think Joe, Danyl and Stacey will be in the last three not so sure about Olly any more hes a good entertainer but not my cup of tea.
Andrew 1608, I have got a life thank you very much, but there is room in it for a little light entertainment on a Saturday night! And i don't vote actually until the final anyway - i leave that to the kiddies who want to crank up their parents' phone bills!
Glad they have gone now I will watch it again, and as for mariah carey she was awful she totally destroyed one of the best songs ever,,
