Shayne Ward fans stage protest over album delay

FANS of X Factor winner Shayne Ward have taken to the streets of Manchester to protest at delays in releasing his new album.

The singer, from Clayton, shot to fame after winning the X Factor three years ago, but has not released any new material for almost two years.

Fans blame his record firm, Syco, which is owned by X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

They held homemade banners and chanted: "We want the album, we want it now!"

They also sang their favourite Shayne Ward songs including 'No promises' and 'That's my goal'.

Delayed

Fan Julie Nelson-Littleproud said that she felt forced to act after Shayne's record label repeatedly delayed the release of his third album.

Syco initially said the album would be released last summer, and have put the date back twice.

Julie, 46, from Manchester, said: "We could probably be called the most patient fans in the world and we felt we needed to speak out.

"He's not just a pop star, he's the people's champion - 10.8m people voted for him.

"We, the fans, want a new album, we want a new tour and we want Shayne to be given the chance to shine like the star we know he truly is."

When he won the show Shayne had huge success, with a Christmas number one and a number one album.

His second album reached number 2 in the charts. A spokesman for Syco said: "Shayne is currently busy in the studio recording new material.

"We don't have a specific date for the release of his new album but it will be early next year."

Im a huge Shayne fan and cant wait till the 3rd album is released, the sooner the better ! He is an outstanding talent and has never been given the same opportunities as the female XF winners. His fans show great loyalty and hats off to them for showing their support !

Well done to Julie and Tina for organising this event. As well as a protest it was a bit of fun. Shayne's fans are very loyal and wanted to show they are still around to support. The article says that Sony has confirmed 3rd album will will be released early next year so thats a positive.

It shows how poor and dumbed-down the music business has become in this country when the best we can now offer the world is a winner of a televised karaoke contest.
We have some great young bands around at the moment but the problem is they will never be heard while this shameless,manipulative self-serving "X Factor" publicity vehicle of Cowell is allowed to dominate the tv and media....pap like the X-Factor is slowly destroying our music industry.There has to be more to music than this "text the winner dropped after an album" pretty-boy rubbish that people like Cowell and Walsh force the gullible,spoon-fed public to now accept as the "norm."

Everything you say is true. But the thing I hate most about X-Factor is it makes kids think that they don't need to bother doing their homework or bothering learning anything at school becuase they all think they can become rich, celebrity pop stars just by going on shows like X-Factor.

Hope the album does eventually come out, and wish Shayne the best of luck in the future. With the right songs he could be a huge star, but they do need the right songs - perhaps that explains the delay. Saw him in concert twice and he was brilliant, really has the knack of connecting with people, also has a lovely voice and is gorgeous!

I find some of your comments a little sad and perhaps YOU all have nothing better to do than slag off one of your own - shame on you all ! As for Mr Bacon in Manchester, erm how can you explain complete drivell that is Cheryl Cole new single in the charts not to mention Robbies rubbish comback song which is worse, the music industry is in a mess I agree but nothing to do with XF, if you dont like it dont buy it !

I'm Tina Campbell, the fan pictured in the photograph. I am proud to be a fan of someone like Shayne Ward who is a genuinely talented individual. Clearly a lot of people shared this view in 2005 when they voted him the overall winner of the X Factor so what has changed?

He has already sold a million records worldwide, with the correct material and level of publicity there is no telling what Shayne could achieve.

As for all those leaving negative comments, if you really think the protest was a waste of time, then why post stupid comments in reponse? Surely that's a waste of your own time and says more about you than anything else! Oh and by the way, where were you the night Shayne won the X Factor? Sat at home voting for him like the rest of us no doubt! One word - HYPOCRITES!

Best of luck with the new album Shayne, look forward to hearing it.

You obviously take music way too seriously. Music is meant for ENJOYMENT - and if people enjoy listening to Shayne (which A LOT of people do) then what is your problem? Everyone has different tastes in music, if you don't like Shayne's music then you know what to do.

The music industry has changed. Get used to it.

If you look at themanipulative and devisive way that X-Factor is produced it will become obvious to all why Mr Ward as not released the latest promised album .He is yesterdays news.The present show as regionalised the acts into the various parts of the Uk and set the voting public in competition against each other .This Maximises the vote for each act regardless of thier individual talent and polarises the really awful acts as hate targets someone will vote back in just to slag them off every week.There as also been a move this year to extend the voting period from one and a half hours to 24 hours therefore increasing the revenue for the shows producers.The biggest mugs are the viewers and voters .
It was a reasonable show when it started but now the bean counters run it it is on a downward spiral.

To Pandora and her ilk. Most of us are sufficiently well-informed to know that talent and success in the pop industry only occasionally meet by chance, but if Shayne Ward's legacy was just what he has achieved to date on sheer vocal talent then everyone north of the Watford Gap should salute him. I'm heartily sick of looking at the talentless, cuprinol-coated wannabees posing in our soaps, presenting shows and trying to tell their oh-so-interesting life stories to struggling magazines selling for pennies, often the progeny of pushy parents.

Mr.Ward has already earned my vote.
