X FACTOR star Daniel Fox has spoken of his confusion after being dumped out of the talent show in controversial circumstances.
Judge Cheryl Cole agonised over whether to put the Heywood singer through to the live finals, at one point storming off set.
However, it was bad news for Daniel, as the Girls Aloud star composed herself to deliver the verdict he had been dreading.
Daniel said: "At the time I was confused and I still am. Everyone thinks I've been robbed. I put so much hard work into it. If I'd have had any of the other three judges, I'd have been through."
Viewers saw the 19-year-old perform for judges Cheryl Cole and Will Young in Marrakesh on Saturday night, but his version of the classic Without You failed to convince them to put him through to the next stage of the competition.
There was drama as Cheryl left the set, unable to reach a verdict, leaving Daniel none-the-wiser as to his fate for a full half-hour before she returned with the news that shattered his X Factor dream.
However, Daniel said he didn't hold any ill feelings towards the pop star for her decision. He said: "Cheryl's still a nice person, I've not lost any respect for her. She's just not used to working with people with my style of music, so she couldn't put me through. We were both unlucky; she wouldn't have chosen me and I wouldn't have chosen her.
"It gives me a bit of comfort that I didn't go out on my ability. Cheryl called me an incredible vocalist and said I had more passion than anyone there, but she said that if she put me through she could end up jeopardising my career. I still don't know why she did it."
Daniel, of Bury Old Road, is remaining upbeat about his X Factor experience and plans to make a return to the limelight very soon. He said: "There's always next year. I want the experience of being on a live show. I'm going to enter Britain's Got Talent. I'm definitely not giving up. I'm only 19, my voice isn't even at its peak yet. I'm still going to go for it.
"It's my lifelong dream to sing with a live orchestra and I'm closer to that than I was before. It's still full steam ahead."
The ex-Heywood Community High School pupil said that he has found it hard to cope with the extra attention since appearing on the show and hates being spotted in the street.
He said: "I don't like being recognised. Everything's been positive, there's been nothing negative, but I don't like it at all. I never did it for the fame or the money, I did it because it's what I love doing.
"I've not regretted going on the show, as I've gained so much experience and I'm a stronger person because of it. There's no point dwelling on it, you've got to see what's next, but I don't think I'll ever be able to completely put it behind me. It'll always be on my mind."
For now, Daniel remains dedicated to capitalising on his X Factor success - with a special hometown show in the pipeline.
"I've had a lot of support, with people saying I should have gone through. I had interest in me before doing the show and there'll hopefully be more interest now I've been on it.
"I love music; I live it, eat it, sleep it, drink it. I'm going to get bigger gigs, get an agent and I'll be doing it for a living. I'm hoping to organise a gig in Heywood at the Civic Centre. It won't be for a few months yet, but we'll get everyone from Heywood together one night."
Daniel said he was looking forward to watching the rest of the X Factor and would be heading down to London to watch some of the live shows.
He said: "I don't know who I want to win. I'll be going down to support them in London. I'm still in touch with all of them and I wish them all good luck. "I'd also like to thank my family and friends for all their support. It wasn't just a journey for me, but for them as well. It was amazing."

Well you know what! I think Daniel is great and sometimes those shows beggar belief! I mean, I don't mean to be nasty but look at those twins that Louis has put through? What is that all about? I am sure they are lovely boys but their singing ability is appalling. I believe they were put through because they are Irishand because Simon Cowell was so against them. X Factor is all about the judges. They are the ones in teh competition, not the contestants. Anyway Daniel, I think you are just great and good luck with your music career!
hhmmm!!! lets see, you were rubbish Dan lad, you didn't have the X factor now do you understand
Think of it as a luck escape Dan - you have been saved from a life of karoke and cover versions. Get out there and start singing in bars etc and forge your own career and line your own pockets and not Simons etc.
didnt do it for fame or money now that is a good one he needs to apply for the comedians
"If I'd have had any of the other three judges, I'd have been through." Says who? Daniel?
"I don't like being recognised. Everything's been positive, there's been nothing negative, but I don't like it at all." This young man is contradictio in terminis. He ought to choose another career path.
The X factor wasnt right for Daniels voice any way. If he carries on posing for photos looking like his nan has just died then being rejected is going to be the least of his worries.
'Agony' is getting a terminal disease or having a limb amputated, this is just a trivial set back for one person who can always try again next year-such sensationalism over something so trivial.
My god was this guy garbage or what. Somebody get me some rotten tomatoes !!!.
X Factor has nothing to do with talent, and certainly has nothing to do with musical ability. Whatever happened to musicians breaking out and making it on their own. It's the way all the big names over the years did it, and that's the music that lasts. Who remembers previous X Factor winners?
I don't watch the show, so can't comment on Daniel's abilities, but if he's good, and got the dedication to make it - he'll have longer success than those on the show.
...angry Mike, you are a very nasty man!!!
Deejay from Bury, Previous winners of X factor include leona Lewis who has gone on to be massive in America. Alexandra Burke & Shane Ward seem to have done ok, so it's not right to knock the show. It does its job.
Sorry lad but you where not that good...although maybe you just shade the twins & they are appalling, if I had to watch them perform for 20 minutes I think I would shoot myself.Stop feeling sorry for yourself & get on with your life.If you have the talent perhaps you will make it,but personally I doubt it.
If you don't like being recognised Daniel. What on earth were you doing on a Wannabee show?.
On that photo, he looks like he's just got out of bed after a heavy whisky session trying to ward off a cold.
Jodie, not forgetting the utterly unmemorable Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson (I even had to look them up on Wikipedia because I'd forgotten their names!). Can anyone remember more than 2/3 from each series?
Unfortunately, Daniel wasn't very good. His "opera" voice was forced and his vibrato came from moving his mouth, not technique. He claimed he was "different", "fresh" and just what the show needed - er, what about Rhydian from a couple of years ago, who actually was a very good singer (rather than "vocalist", whatever that means)?
You were not robbed at all.. stop moaning..
You sing in an opera style, but truth is, your not very good at it!
I cringed when i heard you sing.
i am sure your a nice person, but get over it, move on
Jan - you think that's nasty you should hear what i've got to say about them twins.
Why not marry Emma Chawner, then you can duet for the next series auditions...Now thats agony on so many levels.
Unfortunately these SYCO Production talent shows do tend to pander to the deluded. Instant fame and easy money is a career option these days. These kids need to get an education.
Sorry Daniel but like the 99% of the wanna be's who enter that competiton the word delusion comes to mind. If you are any good then you wont need the X factor talent show you will make it on your own. The real stars of that show are the ones who gives us a laughand not the one who think they are going to win.
The music/show business is all about doing Auditions and getting knockbacks ,A lot of actors/singers go for auditions weekly and weekly they get refused work i know a few pro actors who spend most of the time on the dole infact quite a few well known actors sign on when they dont have enough work so stop trying to be a marter and stop being a spoilt bratt.
Why doesn't Daniel just audition for Musical Theatre. That's all his voice is suited to.
X-Factor is essentially a Pop Singer(s) competition....
He was singing out his depth in the first place; Rhydian set the presidence for this, I'm sure more talent lads like him will be disappointed in future seasons.
