But speculation that they could include Kevin Kennedy, who played Curly Watts, is said to be premature.
"There has been no discussion so far about Curly returning to the show but who knows which old faces might be coming back for the anniversary," a Corrie spokeswoman said.
Currently touring in the Queen stage musical We Will Rock You, Kevin played binman turned supermarket boss Curly for 20 years until 2003.
The Manchester-based actor has spoken of making a return to the Rovers, with fans voting Curly as one of the characters they would most like to see again.
Once married to barmaid Raquel, played by Sarah Lancashire, Curly wed second wife Emma (Angela Lonsdale) before the couple moved to Newcastle.
A number of special events are being planned to mark the Street's half century in December 2010 but the plans have yet to be finalised.
Viewers have also said they would like to see other characters back for the celebrations, including Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander) and her one-time lodger Eddie Yeats (Geoffrey Hughes).
Norman 'Curly' Watts was first seen working on the local dustcart and ended up as a Weatherfield councillor.
A course in business studies changed his life. He left the bins behind for a job at Bettabuy and moved into the corner shop flat with first love Shirley Armitage, the soap's first mixed race relationship.
His screen partnership with Reg Holdsworth (Ken Morley) provided some of Corrie's funniest moments.
Curly married former Miss Bettabuy Raquel in 1995 after a stormy on-off relationship which was never meant to last. More than 20 million viewers watched Curly and Raquel's final reunion in 2000, as she returned to her new life in France.

Jean Alxander's character Hilda Ogden wouldn't come back as alot as has changed since she left in the 1980's and for the worst. She was great and it would be wonderful to see her and Eddie Yeats again.
But don't hold your breath..
