MADONNA will perform at the M.E.N. Arena in one of only two confirmed British dates this year.

The pop superstar brings her Sticky and Sweet world tour to Manchester in July, before heading to Europe.

It is only the third appearance 50-year-old Madonna has made in the city in 25 years, and this time she will be accompanied by trance DJ Paul Oakenfold.

Madonna first played in the city at the Hacienda in 1984, her British debut which was filmed for Channel 4 music show The Tube. She returned in 2004 with her sell-out Re-Invention tour.

The Sticky and Sweet tour came to Europe last year but did not stop in Manchester. It was the biggest grossing tour in history for a solo artist, featuring tracks from her latest No 1 album, Hard Candy, as well as old classics.

Tickets for the fully-seated July 7 show, which follows a London date, are priced £65, £85, £110 and £175 and go on sale next Friday. Call 0844 847 8000.

Saw her at Wembley Arena a few years ago with my now wife. Not worth the £120 per ticket price tag, didn't even play any classics !!

Ye Gods, I've had the misfortune to attend Madonna gigs in the past - once willingly and the second under severe duress. What a shocking let down these shows are. An absolute shedload of money to hear a motley mixture of miming on the fast tunes and tuneless bellowing on the interminable slow songs. All this wrapped up with egomaniac posturing, cod-messianic preaching, "Sexy" bits as hot as the Arctic circle - and the woman is a humour vacuum to boot. I'd sooner chew my own foot off than sit through it again

What a rip off. No doubt Ticketmaster will be charging their usual extortionate booking fees?!Wonder if she'll be wearing any fur on stage? Yuck! this woman's a disgrace and should go back to the US!
