The boyish crime-fighting reporter will be played by Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell - and Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has signed up to work on the film.
Chester-born Craig will play villain Red Rackham. He recently starred with Bell in the Second World War film Defiance.
The new Tintin movie, directed by Speilberg and due for release in 2011, will also feature The Office and Pirates of the Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will play Tintin's whiskey-swigging companion Captain Haddock, memorable for outbursts such as 'listering barnacles' and 'hundering typhoons'.
