IT'S been quite a year for our homegrown stars, so how are they going to do even better in 2009? We quizzed the celebs to see what their New Year resolutions will be for the next 12 months.

There's no doubting that 2008 was the year that belonged to Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson - capped off with his triumphant performance at the Royal Variety Performance. But he won't be resting on his laurels.

His resolution is: "To put as much effort into singing as I have into my dancing. And just to stay strong - that's my resolution every year."

Boxing champ Ricky Hatton (pictured) reckons his is: "To eat more bacon and less lettuce."

Coronation Street's Ryan Thomas, who became a dad this year with his former Corrie girlfriend Tina O'Brien: "I want to have more holidays! I've been to some amazing places but I would love to go and do a bit of a tour round America. I'd love to go on safari but not right now with a little baby."

Their Corrie pal Jennie McAlpine says: "I don't believe in New Year resolutions . I'll try to have more fun - although I don't know how I could possibly have more fun than I am having at the moment!"

A raft of celebs are looking for a healthier 2009. New Order's Peter Hook says he wants "to get fit and squeeze into my favourite clothes again."

Dancing on Ice and Hollyoaks' star Chris Fountain: "Healthy eating - I'm feeling inspired by Jamie Oliver and I'm going to be cooking more for myself next year, instead of eating out. Nothing complicated - just meat and two veg."

John Thomson: "To have some actual body definition. To own for once in my life a pair of rock hard pecs. In fact, I'm going to do it before April."

TV presenter Richard Madeley: "Drink less. I drink far too much wine and I've got to cut down."

Meanwhile Waterloo Road star Denise Welch's is: "To start saying no to more things. I say yes to everything and then find I've got no time to do anything of my own."

Emmerdale stalwart Tony Audenshaw: "I have failed to keep up my last two years' resolutions, so 2009 is going to be the year I dance at every opportunity and help my friends grow vegetables."

The Take That lads have ruled the world in 2008 - now they want to score brownie points on the home front. Gary Barlow says: "I've been coming and going a bit at home and I need to make more effort. I've been leaving my breakfast material all over the sink, I need to buck up. There's points to be got, there's prizes, and I need a Brucie bonus." While Mark Owen adds: "Maybe just to listen a bit more."

But showbiz icon Lorna Luft, star of The Wizard of Oz at The Lowry, has got it sussed we reckon.

She says: "My resolution is to never go to the gym, not to go on a diet and always to be less tolerant. Those are the ones I will keep."
