A new movie inspired by the music of The Smiths is to start filming this summer with a cast of young stars to include Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown-Findlay.

The film, titled Shoplifters of the World Unite, is to be based on the true story of an American Smiths fan, who, devastated by the band's 1987 break-up, forced a heavy metal DJ to play nothing but Smiths songs for hours.

Hmm, but what about ex-Hollyoaks actress Emma Rigby? He was spied in Manchester only last month after a long lunch with the blonde beauty at Cicchetti in the city centre, fuelling rumours they’re an item. But he reckons that's not quite the case.

Silent film The Artist made a big noise at the Baftas last night – winning seven awards including Best Film, Leading Actor and Best Director.

The film – a homage to the silent era of Hollywood – swept the board. The only low point was seeing its leading lady Berenice Bejo lose out in the Outstanding Actress award to Meryl Streep.
