Team manager Jim Lynch had wanted at least a point as a platform for the two-leg Knockout Cup quarter-final against Peterborough tomorrow and Thursday.
But, with captain Chris Harris managing only three second places and an engine failure, the Autogate Aces lacked top-end power.
The home side built up a commanding 26-16 lead after seven races but then the Aces snapped back. Patrick Hougaard was handed a tactical ride in the next, which he won, and with Kling third it was 28-13.
The revival looked short-lived when Harris had an engine failure in the 10th and Wolves cashed in with full points to stretch into a 36-27 lead, but the Aces refused to lie down.
Schlein won the next and was followed in by Hougaard after he passed track specialist Peter Karlsson. That made it 37-32 but Wolves raced home in the last three races. Tweet
