The Autogate Aces trailed in the early stages and looked set for a tough night against the powerful Panthers.
They didn’t take the lead until heat eight, but then stretched gradually away for a major triumph, which allows them to maintain some hopes of a place in the Elite League play-offs.
It was a great night for operations director, Chris Morton, who returned to his old team manager role for the Aces in the absence of Jim Lynch.
Morton took the team back into the dressing room for an interval pep talk and it worked a treat as the side ripped the Peterborough challenge apart and defied two efforts to force their way back into the match by using tactical substitutes.
The quality of the racing became more and more intense, highlighted by a flashpoint heat 13 when Belle Vue’s gutsy Aussie, Rory Schlein, passed triple world champion, Nicki Pedersen, on the outside of the back straight.
Schlein hit the fence as he went through the tiniest of gaps, but he maintained his momentum and there was a furious confrontation between the riders on the track at the finish.
Schlein said: “Nicki tried to close the door on me, but I had already gone for the gap and I had to keep going.”
It was an eventful night, too, for Droylsden teenager, Jason Gerraty, who took a second place in heat seven when the experienced Schlein shepherded him home on a memorable debut in senior racing at the Belle Vue track.
Morton said: “The score didn't reflect what a good meeting it was. It turned out very well for us and two or three races were worth the entry money alone.
“I was really pleased with the way the lads turned it round because it looked as if we were in for a hard night in the early races.
“The victory could prove a pivotal match for us this season. There are quite a few teams still in with a shout of making the play-offs and this victory kept alive our hopes.”

Hardly been consistent at home this season, this win is welcome but still the same old story poor away form has cost the club any chance winning any silverwear. Are Belle Vue the Manchester City of speedway? it took City 35 years to win their last trophy hope it don't take the aces that long. Poole have been consistent for the last few years winning trophies maybe the aces need to take a leaf out of their book because whatever Poole are doing it works...
Best meeting of the season by a long way.
Harris passing Batchelor down the home straight practically on one wheel
Schlein's heroics in heat 13 to stay on and win after being nearly fenced by Pedersen
Cook's pass to join Harris in a 5-1
Garrity and Schlein team riding....and then of course Garrity leading thrice world champion Pedersen for a couple of laps.
Shame the M.E.N. Can't spell Garrity's name correctly though
