Belle Vue are ready to give local boys Jason Garrity and Kyle Howarth a chance of big-time speedway later this season if they maintain their current improvement with the Colts.

Chris Morton, the Autogate Aces operations director, dangled the chance of a senior Elite League call-up in front of the two outstanding 17-year-olds as they prepared for tonight’s National League Knockout Cup first leg tie against Dudley at Wolverhampton. The return is on June 1.

Attractive

Droylsden lad Garrity and Howarth, from Ashton-under-Lyne, have played leading roles in helping an attractive Colts side to the top of the National League table.

Garrity, a former British Under-15 champion, is a contracted Belle Vue rider while Howarth, who also rides for Premier League Edinburgh, is on a Poole contract.

Morton said: “I have watched the pair of them progress with each meeting this season and they are both very promising.

“If there is a chance to put them into the Aces team later in the season, and we feel either of them is good enough to take it, then we will do it.

“The reason we have started the Colts team is to help riders progress. We want to see it change every year because the lads have moved on to higher things. The reason they are here now is to make serious progress.

“We are getting a lot of enquiries from Premier League clubs who want to sign Garrity and he wants to progress to a higher league so he can continue his learning process against better and more experienced riders.

“We are talking to Jason and his family about the best way forward for him.”

The Aces home match against Peterborough last night was postponed because of a waterlogged track and will be run on Monday, June 20 subject to confirmation.
