Belle Vue Aces welcome stadium proposals

Belle Vue speedway bosses have reacted with delight at the news their four-year campaign for a new stadium has taken a big step forward.

Manchester city council has revealed plans for a major sporting venue in Eastlands and Gorton, including a new home for the Aces.

The plan will be put in front of the executive on March 16 when the Aces hope to get the green light to build the new stadium that will also stage world events on a regular basis.

Aces chief David Gordon said: “We are thrilled that our vision for the future is so close after all our work.

“But we must remain patient for a little longer.

“We have been working very positively with New East Manchester Ltd and Manchester city council on a proposal to establish a world class speedway stadium in Belle Vue as part of proposals for Sports Village that involves taekwondo, basketball and other sports.”

As well as speedway, the plans include community football pitches and swimming pools alongside the current world-class training facilities for cycling on an
80-acre venue in Openshaw.

Gordon said: “We hope that the city council approves the proposal to bring forward this Eastlands Community Sports Plan and we will continue to work with NEM and MCC so that they can be considered as part of the final detailed plan.”

What do you think? Have your say.

This would be fantastic news for Manchester, fantastic news for Gorton, fantastic news for Belle Vue and fantastic news for Speedway supporters worldwide.

Belle Vue is the most famous Speedway club in the world. Lodging at the Greyhound stadium is not suitable. We need this new stadium to host top international events and to bring the World Cup final to Manchester.

I urge the members of the Executive to give this proposal a resounding YES on March 16th

Considering the Olympics are just around the corner, surely the council must not allow this opportunity to pass them by and "tick all the boxes".Imagine Manchester maybe hosting the British Speedway Grand Prix/World Cup Final or other world class events like we used to at the Mecca that was Belle Vue(Hyde Road).Let us not forget that it was two of our very own Mancunians the Aces and British legends Peter Collins and Chris Morton, that brought home World Championship honours in 1984 by winning the FIM World Pairs Championship in Lonigo,Italy. We,as Mancunians and Aces fans are immensely proud of this fact. The new venture can only improve the probability of this feat happening, whichever sport it may be.

The new stadium in my eyes is good for all, As it give the Aces a proper home. Better facilities and also would create new jobs in the area. And the fact we have been promised we could hold major events at the stadium by the head of organisers of the FIM then people would come to Manchester from not only the rest of the UK but europe and the world too! So it would be great for all in my view!

With all the doom and gloom with the Spending Cuts , it is so good to see some Positive news for a change , A new stadium for the world famous Belle Vue Aces is long overdue , When they had to leave the old Mecca of Speedway , The Council that stood at the time promised to help Belle Vue find a new Stadium , To my knowledge the move to the Greyhound Stadium was`nt made easier with any Council help , So it would be good after some 20+ Years to see the Council give all their help to enable Belle Vue to achieve their dream and have a purpose built Stadium , which will attract major Championship events which in itself would bring some much needed revenue to local Businesses, It would be geographically well placed to assemble a Speedway Academy to nurture young Talent along the lines of Craven,Collins,Morton etc etc.
Hopefully this will not be a pipe dream , and the Plans will be driven forward for something that is well overdue.

Great news just what the most famous speedway club in the world should have.
Will be good not only for the Aces but Manchester because of all the visitors a world class speedway meeting will attract.

Living 160 miles away from Manchester it is, of course, difficult to get to meetings. When Hyde Road was our home I didn't mind the 320 mile round trip from time to time. When the team moved to Kirkmanshulme Lane I was just grateful they had survived but after a dozen or so attendances I gave up. The effort just wasn't worth the end result. Facilities were poor and the racing was too good. Now at long last we have the greatest track in speedway hopefully being resurrected. Great racing and spectacle back where it belongs. Well done the management team and congratulations to all those involved in bringing this about. Looks like I might be doing a bit of driving in the not too distant future.
