Gjedde gets Aces boost

Belle Vue have told unlucky Danish star, Charlie Gjedde, that he is in their team plans for 2011 after missing the whole season through injury.

Gjedde, 30, needed surgery after suffering serious damage to knee ligaments and muscles in a pre-season practice session at Stoke last March.

He was on the verge of a comeback after being forced to stop racing in July, 2009 for a shoulder ligament operation.

The Aces have felt his absence acutely this season as he had been handed a key role in the middle of the team and he has never been adequately replaced.

Team boss Chris Morton said: “Charlie’s rehab is ahead of schedule and he will be ready to ride at the start of next season.”

Gjedde said: “I’ll be ready to ride again when the new season starts in March. I was told it would take six to nine months to recover after the operation but it’s looking good and I’m ahead of schedule.”

Belle Vue’s home match against Swindon last night, their last Elite League fixture of the season, was rained off and has been rearranged for next Monday (7.30pm).

Meanwhile, discussions are continuing about Belle Vue’s proposed new stadium next door to their current home in Kirkmanshulme Lane.

We have to be ruthless about the team for next year. Karlsson, Lanham and Wright have to be shipped out and replaced with riders of genuine quality. No more "Riders with potential" or riders who are injury-prone.

Other teams have unearthed good riders mid-season - why can't we ?

In your sports editors online webchat last monday he promised he would contact Manchester City Council and New East Manchester to get an update on the progress of the new Belle Vue Speedway Stadium.
He said he'd report on it by the end of the week....It's now nearly the end of the following week...has he forgotten us?
