He goes into the penultimate World Championship round in second place knowing the title is out of his grasp unless defending champion Nicki Pedersen has a disastrous climax to his campaign.
However, Crump is under pressure for the silver medal from American Greg Hancock and Poland's Tomasz Gollob.
He is determined to make full use of his intimate knowledge of the Italian track, saying: "I have reached the main final there for the last three years, winning in 2006 after finishing second the year before.
"I use Lonigo in the off season for testing my engines and setting up my bikes so I know the track well.
"It is not unlike the tracks in Australia, so I do like racing there. I have a lot resting on my shoulders right now but I am used to the pressure after 17 years of racing. "
Overall standings after nine of 11 rounds: N Pedersen (Denmark) 155, J Crump(Australia) 127, G Hancock (US) 120, T Gollob (Poland) 118, H Andersen(Denmark) 102.
Crump returns to Belle Vue on Monday determined to spearhead a victory bid in their final League match against Coventry which will make sure they avoid the relegation play-offs.
