BELLE Vue face an anxious wait to discover the full extent of a wrist injury suffered by star man, Jason Crump, in the World Cup final on Saturday.

The double World champion was seeing a Harley Street specialist today after being brought down by Sweden's Peter Ljung in his first race at Vojens. He hit the ground hard and was sent flying into the safety fence.

Crump rode in the re-run and took his next ride before withdrawing and he looks likely to miss tonight's home Elite League match against Peterborough at Kirkmanshulme Lane (7.30pm). He had been due to ride in Poland yesterday but came home instead.

Aces' team boss Chris Morton said: "Jason says the chances of him riding are not good but we will have to wait until he has seen his specialist."

It is the latest in a dreadful run of injuries for the Aces this season and last night they were having difficulty finding a guest replacement.

Morton added: "The only Elite League track not riding are Poole but neither Bjarne Pedersen nor Chris Holder are available."

It means the Aces have had to look into the Premier League for a guest replacement and they have booked former rider, Kevin Doolan, now with King's Lynn.

Hans Andersen, who captained Denmark to victory in the World Cup, will be missing from the Peterborough side. He has been banned for 14 days by the British Promoters' Association for withholding his services because he is owed money by the club.

Favourites Denmark, riding in front of their home crowd, were pushed all the way by defending champions, Poland, with Sweden third. The Australian challenge fell away after Crump's injury. Scores:

DENMARK 49: N Pedersen 11, B Pedersen 11, H Andersen 11, K Bjerre 9, N-K Iversen 7.

POLAND 46: T Gollob 14, W Jagus 12, J Hampel 11, R Holta 5, G Walasek 4.

SWEDEN 39: F Lindgren 16, J Davidsson 10, A Jonsson 9, P Ljung 4, D Nermark 0.

AUSTRALIA 21: L Adams 6, R Sullivan 5, C Holder 4, J Crump 3, D Watt 3.

Meanwhile, Belle Vue's new Danish signing, Patrick Hougaard, finished second in the World Under-21 championship semi-final in Gorican, Croatia.

He scored 13 points with three wins and two second places to qualify for the final at Pardubice in the Czech Republic on October 5.

Morton said: "That was a brilliant performance by Patrick because he had never seen the place before."

The meeting was won by unbeaten home star, Jurica Pavlic, who will be riding in Belle Vue's 80th anniversary meeting a week tonight.

Robert Kseizak, Belle Vue's No 8, won his first race but finished with five points and failed to progress.
