BELLE Vue's injury jinx struck again at Kirkmanshulme Lane on Monday night.

Pole Lukasz Jankowski, who only returned last week after missing five matches with a shoulder injury, broke a collar bone in a ninth-heat crash.

He also suffered suspected injuries to the shoulder he damaged last month and was taken to hospital.

It was a serious blow for the rider and the Aces, who are still without long-term absentee Steve Boxall.

Jankowski fell on the first lap of the ninth race of the Elite League match against Eastbourne and was hit in the back by the bike of visiting rider James Brundle.

The Eastbourne man made a great effort to put his machine down but he was right behind the fallen Belle Vue man and it slid into his back at speed.

A preliminary examination revealed the broken collar bone but further injury to the shoulder he damaged last month was suspected.

The injury caused a long delay while a replacement ambulance was brought to the stadium.

Earlier, Belle Vue's Australian star Jason Crump had proved that he's right on song for Saturday's Danish Grand Prix in Copenhagen by shattering his own track record.

Crump, who clocked 57.8 seconds in August 2006, slashed almost a second off that time with 56.9 when he left new British champion and Grand Prix rival Scott Nicholls in his wake.

Nicholls emphasised just how quick the track was running when he beat Crump's previous record in heat five.

The Aces built a steady lead and when Crump and Billy Forsberg took full points from heat six, the home side had a handy 22-14 advantage.

The Eagles looked set to reduce the arrears in a rerun of the eighth heat when Lewis Bridger and Simon Gustafsson swept ahead of Forsberg who had been shaken in a heavy fall.

But the Swede chased the visiting pair before passing them both on the inside to show that he's ready to resume normal service after a month's absence with a broken thumb.
